The Swede Plains M. E. Church invites worship at 10:00 and Sunday School at 11:00 this Sunday. The minister E. E. Pengelly notes the congregation has been gratifying and invites more members to join for worship and fellowship with friends and neighbors.
The churches invite all to Sunday School at 10 and Morning Worship at 11 with Evening Service at 7 30 P M The Sunday School made a fine showing and the young people meet at 6 30 each Sunday There is a cordial invitation to those not attending any church to worship with them and plans to attend next week are encouraged.

A large barn and granary on the Mrs Joe Swanson farm five miles north of Polk burned at noon Thursday. The Polk Fire Department arrived too late. feed and corn were destroyed while neighbors rescued several horses and cattle. This is their second farm fire in two weeks. The department seeks a new fire truck and equipment.
The paper publishes sample ballots for the general election with polls open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The larger ballot lists state and county officers plus two athagr ballots covering double liability for banks and the short ballot. The smaller ballot concerns amending to legalize slot machines. Read ballots carefully to vote intelligently.
The Polk High School Junior Class stages a three act farce comedy in the school auditorium on Wednesday evening November 9. Director Miss Dorothy Pearson and student director Elizabeth Smith lead a cast including Dean McGinnis Stuart Pengelly Burdette Peterson Lester Upton Peggy McGinnis Lois Cramer Welcome Willits Irene Gustafson Laura Johnson Thais Belle Lackey and Rose Bedient.
American Education Week will be observed November 6 12 to call public attention to the American school system. The passage notes Americans past and present take pride in the schools and value their role in enhancing life for citizens compared with other nations.

A farewell reception at the Free Mission church honored Rev and Mrs Carlson who depart for Anandale Minnesota. Visiting ministers Rev Westland Rev Rossell and Rev Pengell spoke. singers from Aurora Stromsburg and Nybergs performed. Gifts from church groups. refreshments served. vacancy left by Rev Gerlson remains unfilled.
The Faithful Workers Club gathered October 26 at Mrs Clay Love’s home with 14 members and two visitors. The program included convention highlights from Kearney and Osceola, led by Mrs For rest and Mrs Forrest Berggren. Refreshments were served by Mrs Charles Dahlgren and Mrs Schrum, with Mrs Frank Nordberg hosting next meeting on November 23.
Arlington area residents hosted and visited across Arborville Benedict Hampton and Clarks with guests from Trenton Fort Worth and York College. Dinners Sunday included Mr and Mrs C E Reckner Mr and Mrs O K Jackson and others while the T D Otte family moved into the late George Bingham residence.
The Baptist church in Nebraska City holds nightly special services with rising attendance and a fine spirit. Rev Ralph C Nelson preaches a blessing filled Word and the meetings are set to close Sunday evening.

The county 4 H executive committee will host a county wide covered dish luncheon for all members and leaders. Mrs. R. J Peterson was pleasantly surprised on Friday October 28 as neighbors and friends gathered at her home to celebrate her birthday anniversary. The afternoon was social and refreshments were served by guests who gave many nice gifts. Guests departed wishing many more happy returns.
Ralph Waggoner son of Mr and Mrs Earl Waggoner former Polk residents wed Miss Junita Bartlett on October 2 in Alton California Where the Waggoners now reside after moving west two years ago Friends received word this week of the ceremony and residence status.
A gathering of Baptist youths met Thursday evening at the Roland Swanson residence near Stromsburg. R M Bailey.
University of Nebraska researchers report that winter wheat grown in high phosphorus soils shows about 25 percent better survival through winter and faster spring recovery. Experiments compare phosphate fed plots with controls, guiding farmers to test before wide use.
Twenty six Polk County farmers attended a banquet at the Rapp Hotel hosted by the Osceola Community Club. The event honored pasture forage and livestock program progress with a menu including Virginia Baked Ham and desserts, followed by a program featuring speakers on seed value, grain and forage sorghums, livestock credit perspectives, and pasture management. Awards were given to George F Anderson, Frank Bard, and Elton Berck for pasture and forage progress.
The Polk County Farm Bureau invites all county residents to an annual meeting at the Rapp Hotel on Friday November 18. It starts with a 12:00 p m covered dish lunch followed by a Scottsbluff territory film by W L Klatt of the Late Department of Agriculture. Klatt will discuss bind weed eradication in the county. Committees include Resolutions chaired by Mrs Lloyd Hahn with Wendell Swanson and Gordon Fredrickson. Food Arrangements led by Mrs Morris Lindberg and Mrs John Renner. Program headed by Mrs Arvid Peterson and Howard L Peterson. New Farm Bureau board members who supervise extension will be elected from Hackberry Stroms burg and Clear Creek precincts. Mr and Mrs John Nordstrom, Polk residents for ten years, held an open house at their daughter V J Johnsons home to honor their sixtieth wedding anniversary. They married in Sweden on October 28 1878 and came to America in 1879 settling on a Polk County farm before moving in 1929 to their present Polk home. Three daughters attended: Mrs N S Nyberg Alma Colorado Mrs W J Johnson and Mrs Albert Peterson Polk. another daughter Mrs W J Thelen of San Diego was absent.
The Osceola county rally drew about five hundred attendees despite a circus tent and parade. Former Osceola native Farry Fleharty, now a federal attorney in Washington, led the speaking. Voters show apathy as a three way governor race looms and the public remains unconcerned.
The High Prairie Club will meet with Mrs Clair Willets on Friday afternoon November 4. Friends and relatives gathered at Mrs John Johne son's birthday anniversary at her home on Sunday. Numerous local families visited, shared baskets, and a boutenous dinner was served. Ladies Aid will meet November 10 with Mrs Gust Chindwen and Mrs Larder Peterson hosting.
