Sfes Marvin Fredrickson and GG Russell Fjell attended the POW Club at Mrs Welter Jones home near Swede Home Swarsday afternoon. aril Doremus of Cherokee Yona was a dinner guest last Tuesday at Mr and Mrs I S Piper home. Mr and Mrs Elmer Sandburg visited Sunday with Mr and Mrs Van Bush and Harriett. Ray Knapp and Mr and Mrs Ralph Lafler of Sydney and Mr and Mrs Charles Knapp of Benedict visited Saturday with Mr and Mrs S S Piper. Rev and Mrs Paul Lemke called on Mr and Mrs J L Stouffer at the Klinger Rest Home in Aurora Monday. Mr and Mrs H Bush of Clarks visited their son and daughter in law Mr and Mrs Van Bush on Monday. Mr and Mrs Clifford Branting were business visitors in Central City Saturday evening. Mr and Mrs Gilbert Blase and son visited Saturday with her mother Mrs Adam Dever. Mr and Mrs J D Forester spent last week in Lincoln with relatives.

Hastings District rally and area social visits noted

Several Hanson County residents attended the Hastings District rally in Osceola and various visitors spent weekends in Clarks Arcadia and nearby towns. Families including Bates Widge Coover and Adelson hosted or joined gatherings while local ministers and friends gathered for church events and a Polk Ministerial Association meeting.

Grasshopper Temperature Measured by Delicate Probe

A small electrical probe of 0.005 inch diameter, developed by an electrical manufacturing firm, is used to measure a grasshopper's temperature for experiments aimed at broader control of crop-destroying pests.

Polk County Board acts on aid refunds and delinquent tax

Polk County officials approve a partial release of a tax lien for Noble Lesuer after he received Old Age Assistance and turned over 10000 to the county treasurer. The board also designates The Headlight to print the delinquent tax list for 1947 at half rate, adjourns to Oct 5, 1948, and approves the resolution details with Commissioners Johnson and Daunt voting affirmatively.
