Polk Plans Expand Holiday Festivities

Polk merchants and residents look to a Lighting Festival this Saturday night with caroling by the Polk High Chorus. A free show for children is planned for December 8 at 2:30 PM, and Santa Claus visits December 15 with another kids show. Winners of December 22 guessing contests will be announced, with prizes awarded on site.

Thanksgiving Gatherings Across Several Nebraska Homes

Carlyn Strand Records at Nebraska Music Clinic

Carlyn Strand from Polk High Band joined by local director Mr. Donald Staples attended the Sixteenth Annual Nebraska Music Educators Association Clinic in York on November 16 14 and 17. Guest conductors included Mr. Donald A Lentz director of the Nebraska University Band leading a 180 piece band, Mr. George Howett on Northwestern University dean conducting a 600 voice chorus, and Mr. Gerhard Schroth director of the St. Louis Philharmonic guiding a 100 piece orchestra. The weekend culminated in a concert Saturday evening highlighting student training under these conductors.

Obituary of Godfrey Lindahl of Polk and Hordville

Godfrey Lindahl born June 1 1874 in Smaland Sweden died November 19 1951 in Osceola Nebraska at 77 years 5 months and 19 days He came to America at age fifteen with his mother and built a home near Hordville later moving to Polk for forty years He was confirmed Lutheran April 21 1889 He visited Sweden in 1923 a carpenter by trade He was the last of his family and was survived by no immediate kin Funeral services were held at Brauer Funeral Home with Rev Paul Walker Burial in Lutheran Cemetery Hordville Read more items about local visits by Mr Kisler and family and other relatives.

Paul Holmes Sale December 6 Near Polk

Paul Holmes will hold a public sale December 6 starting at 12 30 four miles north and two west of Polk. The listing includes 31 head of cattle a full line of late model farm machinery and assorted farming items. Williams and Stern are auctioneers Citizens State Bank is clerk. Two Polk County youths, Roger Werner and George Scott, left Wednesday for Omaha to be inducted into the armed forces. Roger is the son of Mr and Mrs Ray Werner and George is the son of Mr and Mrs Foster Scott. Both enrolled in the paratroopers unit.

Fifteenth Wedding Anniversary Observed at Flick Home

Forty three relatives and friends gathered to mark the fifteenth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Flick. A three tier cake by Mrs. Leo Curran and many gifts highlighted the event. Thanksgiving services and meals followed at local households with several families hosting and attending events and a student recital at Kearney.

The Arborville Town Hall Club held its November meeting on Wednesday November 2 with the Goertzen family musicians playing accordion guitar and mandolins and Rev. Chas Nastay delivering a chalk talk.
