Polk Fire Department and neighbors aided in extinguishing a tractor fire last Monday. Community members and friends offered thanks and gratitude for the help during the incident.
UYordville Baptist Church led by Ediek A. Anderson offers 10:00 Bible School and 11:00 Morning Worship. Immanuel Lutheran Church under C W Long hosts 10:30 service and 10:00 Sunday School. Polk and Swede Plain Methodist Churches led by Paul W Walker list Swede Plain services 10:00 and 11:00, Polk services 10:00 and 11:00 with church school and morning worship.
Rev. Earle f Laton and Rev. E. Earle Eaton lead Arborville church activities with Sunday School at 10:00 am and worship at 11:30. Guest preacher Rev. Carroll H. Lemon of Lincoln appears Nov 20, followed by an Annual Thanksgiving Offering Service on Nov 22. The series includes topics including Thanksgiving Sunday November 27 The Christian's Horn of Plenty.
Nels Pearson and Milford Olson lead Sunday worship at the Hordville and Evan Free churches. Special youth service, Union Thanksgiving service, and Ladies Aid Thanksgiving programs are planned with Rev. H A Fangerstrom and Rev. Pearson as speakers.
The First Baptist Church schedules 10 a.m. church school and 11 a.m. worship with Rev. Paul Nelson as guest preacher. An evening service at 7:30 p.m. and a midweek prayer meeting Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. are noted, along with a Jr. meeting. Numerous attendees from Lincoln Stroms burg Hardville Omaha York Elba Grand Island Clarks and other places are listed.
Oscar Jones suffered an appendicitis attack Sunday night and is improving. Tlof Ostberg received 21 head of feeders from Grand Island. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hahn were surprised at their new home near Hordville by relatives and friends. Polk Womans Club hosted the high school faculty and JUG club with over 50 guests, games, and a two course lunch.
The Commercial Club will meet next Monday evening in the lodge rooms dining area above City Hall. Dinner at seven, tickets via Eddie Larson or Lloyd Stromberg. Senator Jay Hastings of Osceola dies in an Omaha hospital after weeks of illness. American Legion Auxiliary and husbands held a seven o'clock dinner at Horstman barracks. Polk’s singing cowboys Merlin Wright and Eldon Anderson entertained Commercial Club members Monday night. The Club, with the Women’s Club of Polk, sponsors a Hobby Lobby Display at Polk Theatre Saturday afternoon and evening.
