Sundberg 25th Wedding Anniversary Celebrated

Mr. and Mrs. Oscar E. Sundberg celebrated their silver anniversary with an open house on Sunday November 6. A program featured songs and talks by family and friends including Janice, Rev. Walker, Shirley Whitacre, Albert Sundberg, Ruth Weston, Jim Sundberg, Donna and Janice. Relatives and guests numbered about 130 with a three tier cake by Mrs. Hebr Krause and a large list of out of town visitors from nearby towns.

Home Extension Club Meeting Returns Strong Support in Hastings

Nebraska Council of Home Extension Clubs met in Hastings November 1 2 and 3 with theme Home Fountain Head of Democracy. Polk County delegates Mrs Alvin Burke Mrs Forrest Berg gren and Miss Nelle Wisely attended. Registration reached 573 as weather cooperated and tours visited Model Day Dress factory House of Yesterday and Engleside Institution.

Honored on 80th Birthday and School Events

The Polk High School scene includes a December 2 play premiere for Light the Fuse with a large cast. November 15 hosts a Polk Commercial Club banquet honoring the PHS Football Squad with Gregg McBride as speaker and letters awarded. Armistice Day program and open house for Augusta Johnson’s 80th birthday draw community turnout.

Polk High Cubs Dominate Silver Creek 45 0 in Armistice clash

Polk High School routed Silver Creek 45 to 0 on the home field. Roger Long threw for 207 yards on 12 completions and added 111 rushing yards as Polk piled up 443 total yards. Nine Polk seniors end their football careers in this final conference game, including Leonard Anderson and Ralph Kahler.

Bridal Shower Honors Mrs. Francis Johnson and Kinship Group

A bridal shower was hosted at Mrs. Grant Willits home last Friday for Mrs. Francis Johnson and a group including Kensielyinne Monroe Nebanja Mrs. Dale Willits of Columbus Mrs. Edwin Drewell of Alda Mrs. Axel Rudeen of Stromsburg and the bride’s sisters Betty and Doris Fyfe of Shelby. Games and lavender yellow refreshments followed with gifts placed under an umbrella. Miss Rena May Willits and Mrs. Robert Willits served as hostesses.

New Clock Installed at Osceola County Court House

Mrs. Sadie Jarmin of Osceola gifted an electrically operated clock to be mounted above the south entrance of the County Court House. The large timepiece, read from a distance, was bought from Howard Clock Sales and Service Company of New York City and honors her late husband, John H. Jarmin.

Polk Village Erecting $2500 Building

The Village of Polk builds a 40 by 50 foot wooden shed with tin roof and graveled floor to house three maintainers one state owned and two county owned. Will Garling and Dwayne Hahn lead the project with Charles Peterson in charge and a three week completion goal. Local businessmen and farmers will be invited to assist. Dinner guests included Mr and Mrs Raymond Johnson of Los Angeles and Mrs Edna Melton of Long Beach California.

X Ray Machine Visit Set for Polk County

Polk County hosts a Health Ray Machine loan from November 23 to December 19 offering free chest examinations. It will be in Polk on December 16 and December 19. Olive McBeth Osceola County Superintendent chairs the committee with Mrs. Clifford Cramer Polk representative and other members from Stromsburg and Shelby.

Kroger Receives Retirement Honor From Standard Oil Omaha

W J Kroger retires after fifteen years as agent in Polk while the Omaha Division and field 26 Standard Oil Company honored him at a banquet on his 65th birthday. Rev Paul Walker and J H Hay spoke as W L Hoganson presented gifts to Kroger and his wife.

Grandson of Polk couple killed in accident

Four year old Dennis Nyberg, son of Dwain Nyberg and his wife from Rockford Iowa, was hit by a car and killed. Grandparents Mr. and Mrs Walter Nyberg and relatives from Hordville travel to the scene as community sympathy pours in.

Polk Elevator Reports 600 Bushels of New Corn Purchased

Polk Elevator manager Dean Myers reports only 600 bushels of new corn purchased to date from Lloyd Lind farm. The corn tested about 17 percent moisture. The CCC bins near Wurtz Implement hold 67,000 bushels total 13 percent moisture average. Richard Sealey of the Polk County AAA committee leads Polk operations.

WSCS Meeting Aims Pakistan Theme At Polk Methodist

The Polk Methodist WSCS met November 3 in the church parlors. Mrs S J Harless hosted the reception. Program leaders were Mesdames Ostberg Johnson Lytle and the hostesses Hahn Anderson Anderson Hill Gustafson. The theme was Pakistan.

Polk Ladies Attend 4th District Women’s Club Convention

Mrs. Clifford Cramer and Mrs. Neil McNaught attended the 4th District Women's Club Convention in David City on Wednesday and Thursday. Cramer chaired publicity. McNaught is president of the local club. Highlights included talks by state president Bilse Robinson and E A Creighton of Red Cloud at the banquet, and a Thursday session with Prof. I G Campbell of Doane College and his wife recounting life in Turkey.
