Polk Lady Breaks Leg in Porch Fall

Mrs Hennie Seymour of Polk fell from her back porch last Wednesday while shaking rags when a screen door blew open and knocked her off the porch. She suffers a broken left leg above the knee and was taken to Stromsburg Hospital by neighbor Mrs Appleton and others where she is resting comfortably.

Polk Veterans Form Carpenter Partnership

Two Polk graduates, Robert Stevens and Lester Upton, formed a carpenter partnership this month. Stevens served in World War II and earned the Purple Heart, while Upton worked in York after his release and is moving into Mrs. Swanson's residence in south Pork. His parents live in Polk, and Stevens cares for his three year old daughter after his wife’s death in May 1948.

Bouquet honors Polk Commercial Club president Leo Wurtz

Free Chest X Rays Start Next Week in Shelby

The Polk County Chest X-ray Survey begins Tuesday in Shelby with free screenings for Shelby residents and nearby areas. About 200 attended the dinner hosted by the Commercial Club with American Legion Auxiliary serving. Coach Alton Wilhelms presented season highlights and lettermen. music by Leota Sneed and others. Ruth Weston led Half Time Relaxation. Roger Long was football king, JoAnn Lind football queen. Lettermen included Ralph Kahler, Waldon McNaught, Darrell Shostrom, Duane Johnson, and many more. other attendees and Sunday dinners noted among local families.

Crop solicitors view film to finalize Osceola drive plans

Solicitors for Polk County corn drive met in Osceola to view the CROP film Operation Mercy and finalize arrangements for the Friendship Food Train drive. The November meeting of the Methodist Young Adult Fellowship was hosted at the Lloyd Stromberg home. Smorgasbord Draws 300 at Polk High Auditorium

The WSCS held a Smorgasbord on Friday evening November 18 at Polk High Auditorium serving over 300 guests from five to eight pm. Two long diagonally arranged tables showcased a wide array of foods and leftovers were sold to individuals. A bazaar with homemade items ran alongside, led by Mrs Henry Shostrom and Mrs Curtis Flodman with committee members listed.

State Music Clinic Attended By Polk School Students

Miss Leota Sneed and five Polk School students Charles Ziegelbein Bur dette Flodman Waldon McNaught Marilyn Dahlin and La-Vonne Lyle traveled to Norfolk for the State Music clinic over three days. They funded their own travel using the school Driver Car. A concert recording was made and will be rebroadcast on Thanksgiving Day at 3 p m over Fremont station KORN. Several students were absent due to an mumps outbreak and others have returned to class after recovery.

The Polk Woman's Club hosted teachers and their wives on Tuesday evening November 22 at the lodge rooms. Bunco served as the main diversion with committees led by Mrs. Arnold Neuhaus and others handling program refreshment and service.

New Director Chosen for Polk Farmers Elevator Board

Earl Stevens has been selected by the Polk Farmers Elevator Association directors to fill the vacancy created by Gilbert Benson's death. He is the son of T. A. Stevens and lives on a farm southeast of Polk. He is married with three children.
