Tule Cypress of Oaxaca Stands As World’s Largest Tree
A southern Mexico giant, the Tule cypress near Oaxaca, inland from Santa Maria del Tule, dwarfs sequoias in diameter and may exceed them in age. Known as Tule, the Taxodium macronatum shares lineage with Chapultepec Park cypresses in Mexico City and is thousands of years old yet remains green and vigorous. The immense trunk can be encircled by 28 people touching fingertips, highlighting its extraordinary girth.
