The Commodity Credit Corporation sets a 1.51 per bushel loan rate for 1951 corn grading No 3 or better in Polk County. Polk Schools Observe National Education Week in Polk

On November 14 1951 Polk School will observe National Education Week with a 3:00 pm dismissal followed by a 7:30 pm start. After one hour of classes parents may attend, then educational films for another hour, ending with refreshments by the Homemaking Class led by Miss Mabel Lucado.

Polk Cubs defeat St. Marys 25 to 7 in cold night clash

Polk Cubs dominated St. Marys of Grand Island 25 to 7 despite below freezing temperatures and a frozen field. Gaylen Wolmes and Frank Ostrander led Polk with strong runs and timely blocks while St. Marys' fumbling hurt their chances. Swoboda stood out for the visitors in the last home game of the season.

The Odd Fellows and Rebekahs held their annual pheasant feed at the Hall on Thursday evening. Ken Bedient Chosen Assistant Director in College Play

Kenneth Bedient, a freshman at Kearney State Teachers College, is named assistant director and student manager for the first all college play of the season, Mother Is A Freshman, to be staged November 8 and 9 in the college auditorium. The Polk Woman's Club met in the Baptist Church basement for a November program on home decor by a Miller and Paine decorator. Gwen Lindburg led a thanks, Mrs. Cleo Cramer became County President, committees reported on November charity drives, and plans were made for a Christmas party and holiday gift boxes.

Obituary of Iva D Branting

Iva Donzella Beck born March 30 1895 at Clarks Nebraska was daughter of John and Ann Beck. She married Clifford Branting on November 29 1911 and nine children were born. She lived much of her life in Polk and was an organist at Pierce Chapel Methodist Church. She belonged to the Women’s Society of Christian Service the Rebekah Lodge and the American Legion Auxiliary. Funeral services were held at Brauer Funeral Home and Methodist Church with interment in Polk Cemetery.

Polk Village sets sewer assessments at 25 for improved lots

The Polk Village Board of Trustees as Board of Equalization will meet November 15 at the Fire Hall to set and adjust sewer assessments by lot frontage. Rates: 25 dollars for improved lots, 10 dollars for unimproved, 35 dollars for business lots. Objections must be filed by November 14 or heard in person or by counsel at the meeting.
