Three Youths Serve Out Sentences In Polk Jail

Four youths pled guilty to speeding in Polk city limits. All but one chose to serve their sentence in the city jail, fined one dollar plus costs. Several were repeat offenders, and the incident followed arrests by village marshal Ralph Upton after driving at unsafe speeds.

Halloween Party At Methodist Church Pleases Masqueraders

The Junior Sunday School students and teachers held a Halloween party in the church parlors on October 30. Costumed guests enjoyed games such as bobbing for apples and pumpkins, with corn shacks jack o lanterns and Halloween spooks present. Lunch including fortune cupcakes was served to 60 masqueraders.

Polk Community Notes Highlights from Sunday School and Local Visits

Seventh and eighth grade classes of the Methodist Church met Sunday at the home of Mrs Mabel Stevens, oldest living member of the Polk Church, who shared memories of early church days. Luncheon guests included Mrs Ollie Johnson, Mrs Earl Johnson, Mrs Kenneth Peterson, Mrs Al Daley, Mrs C M Fredrickson, and Mrs Kenneth Peterson at Osceola. Glen Hill and others attended the Goldovsky Opera in York City. Mrs C Marvin Fredrickson visited Lilie Flodman in York. Nell Aker visited Harvard with her brother Russell and relatives. Melvin Bender family hosted Pullen family in Central City. Don May of Giltner dined with Milan Blase. Lincoln visitors included Eddie Buresh’s guests Clifford Branting, Clarence Munn, Liva Munn, and Larry Munn. Glen Barzdin visited sister John Westerberg and baby Brian Jay at Bryan Memorial in Lincoln.
