Twenty Years Ago May 19 1927 Local Notices

Entries recall cars and births from York Lincoln Des Moines and Petersens family headlines. Dick Thesing drove a Buick roadster from York. Mrs R L Peterson and Charles Were passengers to Lincoln. a daughter born to Mr and Mrs Win Hill at Flora Ostberg home. Mrs Clara Remington purchased a Jewett car. A fine eight pound boy arrived at Floyd Larson's home. Art Gustafson drove a Fordson tractor to the Burg for farm use.

Union Memorial Services and Local Meetings Schedule

Local news notes a Methodist church union memorial services on May 20 and a WCTU meeting led by Mrs Aker with 18 attendees including visitors. Miss Miller provided music and Mrs McDaniel spoke on parliamentary law. The Polk Theatre will show The Jolson Story next week with high critical praise. District 44 holds its annual school opente at Buckley Park in Stromsburg on Sunday.

Graduation notices and local society updates in Polk County

Miss Martha Johnson attended graduation exercises at Lord Lister hospital in Omaha with her sister Muriel in the class. Mrs A K Crow traveled to Central City for tonisil removal with her husband and Dr Westfall. Local figures from Lincoln to Polk share weekend duties and family milestones. Fifteen years ago in 1932 Mothers Luncheon and Mothers Day events linked Mrs Fred Johnson and Mrs H M McGaffin and their sons Folke and Alice Magnuson visited from Columbus. Miss Alice Magnuson visited Polk schools while Folke stopped by the Progress office. Ruth Harris, daughter of Mrs Homer Ramsey, graduated from Bryan Memorial Hospital nursing program. A 1932 note recalls Ross Goethe Jr recovering from an accidental shooting. Ten years ago in 1937 Sheriff Peterson ordered out slot machines amid county attorney orders and a rain-soaked week affected wheat moisture and the Polk Public School project.

Polk project funds in short supply delays progress

A letter from Senator Norris notes the Polk project approved by PWA officials lacks sufficient funds. Reports also mention illness at St Francis hospital, a large Osceola 6th grade diploma ceremony, a new Osceola daughter born to Mr and Mrs Glenn Hill, and criticism over the Polk schools annual picnic at Buckley Park in Stromsburg.

Greeley Man Hospitalized After Fall At Drug Store

Osceola Myron Crego 86 fell on the steps of Crouse-Tex Drug Store last Wednesday suffering a broken hip. He and his wife and relatives were returning from Indiana when the accident happened. He is treated at St Francis hospital and later home in Greeley. A fire of unknown origin damaged Mc Donald's stock in groceries and dry goods early Saturday, burning a rear floor hole and blistering woodwork. A bread truck driver reported the alarm.

Notice of Final Report for Paul T Wurtz Deceased

The State of Nebraska to all interested in the estate of Paul T Wurtz deceased. The executor filed a final account and report and a petition for final settlement and discharge. American Legion Auxiliary Plans Memorial Day Meeting

The American Legion Auxiliary held a regular meeting at the Masonic home. Plans were made to meet on Tuesday May 27 for Memorial Day. Lunch was served by Mesdames Clair Wiits Arthur Gustafson Robert Gustafson and Lillie Johnson. The annual poppy sale is set for Saturday May 24. Arthur Bates promotes summer piano lessons.
