Swede Plains M and Church E Pengelly minister worship 10 Sunday School 11 Mother's Day focus. Hastings District Conference May 18. Polk High School graduation events and ball club organize season with schedule and list of graduates.
The Polk W. W. G. girls of the Baptist Church met May 2 at the home of Goldie and Maxine Fossberg. Hostesses Goldie Swanon Blanche Peterman Mrs Theo Larson and Marjorie Nelson led the program. Mothers of the Guild Girls were honored. Fifty five attended and a luncheon followed.
The Band Concert scheduled for Wednesday evening May 4 may be postponed due to inclement weather. If this option is required, the concert will be held at the same time on Saturday evening May.
The Faithful Workers Club met at Mrs. Charles Dahlgren’s home on April 27 with 17 members and 16 visitors. The program on “The Bible as Literature” was presented by Mrs. Clarence Walgren with piano selections by Mrs. Ester Lackey. A review of the Stromsburg District Convention followed. refreshments were shared as members brought covered dishes and travel to the gravel road was challenging in mud. The next meeting will be hosted by Mrs. John Hansen in May.
Postmistress Martha P. West reports seventeen air mail flights starting at Grand Teland on May 19 will carry mail to any of 34 Central Nebraska Air Mail district stations. Nebraska Aeronautics Commission releases a Nebraska Air Mail map with fifty approved routes totaling 4 8575 miles. Details about Polk flights to be announced next week.
Arborville Mr and Mrs Jack Stewart of Central City were Sunday dinner guests of A O Whittemore. Mrs W O Rice cares for Mrs Abel Swanson near Stromsburg. Pete Schrader and family visited Bill and Mrs Allison near Stromsburg. Otis Waak and family spent Monday with W C Shockey. C W Reckner and family stayed with Clarence Kemper at Aurora. Walter Green of Polk joined Daniel Graves for Sunday afternoon. Mrs Maurice Fuch and infant Julia Ann returned to John and Mrs Wessel's home. W E Bedient and baby of Waco visited Gertrude Flick Sunday after Aurora hospital. Ella Shenk of Polk visited Will Newton last Wednesday. Elmer Quick of Colorado works at Ester Lackey's. Margaret Pickrel and Thais Belle Lackey joined Polk Dramatic Club to Central City for a theatre party.
Social visits fill weekends as families travel from North Platte Grand Island Lincoln and Hartford Conn. to Stromsburg York hosts a Women’s Club luncheon tea and open meeting. Local teachers take hall space Buckley Park expands to 42 feet long seating 350 to 400.
Mr. O W Bryant of Gothenburg reports for duty at the Citizens State Bank this week. He will be employed during the summer months and was formerly with the Gothenburg and North Platte banks. He also previously worked for Chrysler Corp in Detroit Michigan. The community extends a hearty welcome.
Results from the Rural Field Day at the County Fair Grounds on Saturday cover girls and boys events in Class A and B, bread baking contest winners, and a Commercial Club meeting. Highlights include top girls and boys finishes in jumping, dash, relay, and two-person races, plus prize bread awards across local stores and a Ladies Night agenda with speaker C. C. Hrazier and an India mind-reader act.
The School Board postpones the open house planned for next Friday at the school house because construction is slightly behind schedule. Stage equipment is stalled this week and other installations are delayed. The program will proceed Tuesday evening May 10 with the same content as last week. The next public meeting in the new auditorium is the Senior Play on May 13.
The Women's Club met at Mrs. Oscar Sundberg's home on Tuesday afternoon May 3 with Mrs. Wallace Sandell assisting. Mrs. J. B. McDaniel led the program on the topic Ne ibraske. County President Mrs. Ester Lackey visited and gave an interesting talk. A delicious lunch was served by the hostesses at the close.

Relatives and friends gathered at the Wren Sherwood home for Mrs. Johnny Meisner before her departure for Los Angeles. High Prairie seniors prepare for baccalaureate at Swede Home Church on May 8. Various local visits include Myron Johnson at Axel Fredrickson’s, and Edna Gestrine entering St Marys Hospital in Columbus. The High Prairie Senior Class play is set for May 6 with 10c 20c admissions. Community members host, travel, and congratulate across Swede Home and nearby towns including Omaha and Genoa.
At a regular Village Board meeting last week A Seaac gon was re elected chairman. Appointments included Clerk R J Allison Treasurer Warren Straud Marshall Ralph Upton Street and Commissioner Gust Westlund Light and Water Commissioner W C Steele Health Officer Dr J B Williams Charles Carlson and P T Wurtz to Street and Alley committee Glen Hil and A B Sundberg to Light and Water committees.
The Country Women's Club met at Mrs. Richard Searley's home on Thursday April 28 with 12 members and 3 visitors. A reading by Mrs Hugo Peanson and a duet by Mrs Genevieve Morris and Mrs Leona Person were highlights. A two course luncheon followed and upcoming May meeting will be with Mrs Richard Widga.
Miss Sylvia Fredrickson and Earl Johnson were married Sunday May 1 1938 at 2 30 PM at the Baptist Parsonage in Stromsburg by Rev Gust Carlson. The couple leaves for a wedding trip after a luncheon at the bride’s parents home.
Mrs. Geo Reeb was honored at a two course luncheon at her granddaughter Mrs Lester T Rehrs home. Attendants included Mr and Mrs Geo Reed Mr and Mrs A Carlyon Mr and Mrs H Reed and Leila Mr and Mrs L E Blase and family Mr and Mrs 1 Reed of Osceola and Miss Sophia Reep.
The Lind family extends gratitude to relatives and friends for the acts of kindness during the illness and death of their beloved wife and mother. Albert Lind and family.
York contractor O L Clark aims to finish a 72 by 76 foot school addition by May 10. The facility includes a 200 seat basketball gym, stage and dressing rooms, and a second story room totaling 1650 square feet. Construction began November 29 1937 with PWA covering 45 percent of costs totaling about 27000 dollars. Merle Strand currently oversees site work in Clark’s absence and will follow Clark to Riverdale Nebraska for a new project.
Polk and 33 other schools enter the Midland College eastern Nebraska track and field meet at Fremont. With the largest entry list ever, preliminaries for five track events and finals for three field events occur in the morning. Awards include a 16 inch trophy for the winning team and medals for top four finishers.
