All Polk Stores will stay open Wednesday nights starting May 4 for the Band Concert and continue every Wednesday thereafter until further notice. Summer Band Concerts with the Polk Municipal Band resume on May 11. Plan now to spend Wednesday nights in Me Polk.

The Official Board of the Nebraska Evangelical Free Churches Youth Conference and Building Committee met at Local Free Mission Church to plan a permanent tabernacle at Polk Bible Camp. D. E. Wallin of Stromsburg leads construction with Strand Lumber Company supplying materials. The 40 by 70 foot structure will be substantial and will host dedicatory services at the Annual Young People’s Conference next August.
Eight major corn varieties and hybrids will be planted across eight Nebraska counties Richardson Cass Saline Dodge Wayne Madison Knox Polk Each test uses fifty five hybrids or open pollinated varieties and all hybrids on the Nebraska market will be tested. Farmers will review plots next fall to compare relative values The tests are conducted annually by the department of agronomy at the Nebraska college of agriculture with county agents and local farmers Each test plants each hybrid in six field locations to reduce soil variation impact The Polk County plot will be at Willard Lindburg farm with 654 hybrids and open pollinated varieties planted there.
Polk County hosts its rural schools annual Field Day at the county law grounds in Osceola starting 9 30 a m under county superintendent Olive McBeth. Fifteen boys events and eleven girls events feature district prizes and Osceola Community Club support.

Ella Nore Helen Norton daughter of Charles O and Mary Norton was born in Cambridge on December 17 1869. She married Albert Lind March 16 1886 and they farmed with her parents before moving to their own farm where they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. She died April 24 1938 at age 68. Funeral services were held at Swede Plain Church with interment in Swede Plain cemetery.
The Deacons of the Baptist Church met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Stouffer on Monday evening. Mrs. A. O. Whittemore visited her sister Mr. and Mrs. Weststreet in York last week for a couple of days. Real estate dealers M. A. Larson and Olson from Central City were in town Friday evening on business. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Upton visited her parents near Clarks on Sunday.
Polk County teachers and guests gathered at Osceola Methodist Church for the fourth annual banquet on Friday April 22. About 150 attendees enjoyed decorated tables musicians and a program featuring Justice Bayard H. Paine of the Nebraska Supreme Court who shared insights from his Mexico trip.

On Saturday April 23 fourteen Boy Scouts plus Scoutmaster Wilcox and Assistant Scoutmaster Cowgill rode Sundberg’s truck to a fishing trip near Clarks. They caught nearly 30 fish, the largest a 17 inch bass by Gerald Stevens, and ended with a fish fry at 5:00 p.m. with Mr. Wilcox as chef. Polk’s proudest building the new school house will be formally opened Friday May 6 with rural district representatives present. The event includes a seven o’clock guided tour and an eight o’clock program in the main auditorium followed by continued building inspection. No admission.
Anna Louisa Ehn born in Onesve, Sweden died April 20 1938 at age 91 2 months 13 days. She came to America in 1886 with husband John G. Ehn farming until 1914 then moving to Polk. Survived by nine children 42 grandchildren and five great grandchildren with relatives in Sweden and California. Funeral April 23 at Free Mission Church Polk conducted by Rev Paul E Carlson.
Rev and Mrs R M Bailey and Mr and Mrs Elmer Hanquist attended the Sunday School rally at Wesley Chapel on Sunday, joining in the church event with families and congregants present.
Nebraska officials promote National Air Mail Week with two stops planned for Polk on May 19 1938. Post Mistress Martha Westfall coordinates the event with a goal of one air mail letter per family and special envelopes noting First Air Mail stop Polk Nebraska. Commercial Club sponsors the affair and more events are planned for that day.
Hazel Violet Heiden eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs John Heiden of Fort Collins Colorado married Erwin Paul Otte son of Mrs John Otte of York on Easter Sunday April 17 at 2 00 pm in the Lutheran Church Fort Collins Rev Theo A Meyer officiated maid of honor was Miss Violet Heiden sister of the bride best man was Lawrence Heiden and brides maid was Mrs Lawrence Heiden The couple will live on a Wellington Colorado area farm after a short wedding trip The bride and family were well known in the Wellington community prior to moving to Colorado months ago
