Mr and Mrs Harvey Sundberg celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Sunday afternoon March 16 at their home. A buffet luncheon followed, with extensive silver themed decor and gifts from relatives. Attendants included Raymond Sundberg Martha Larson Calmar Johnson and Charles Stromberg, and many friends from Lincoln York Polk Stromsburg and Fort Riley.
Mr and Mrs Neal Van Housen announce the birth of a son Todd Wesley on March 13. Todd weighed a reported amount and eight ounces. Mr and Mrs Ted Pfeifer of New Orleans announce a son Bradley Duane born March 12 weighing seven pounds. Grandparents include Mr and Mrs M O Johnson.
Potatoes can be boiled, fried, eaten raw in salads or au gratin casseroles and even used as a substitute for water chestnuts in Chinese dishes. They can be chopped for stuffing in carp and, if the flavor is odd, should be discarded with the stuffed dish and a hamburger ordered at a restaurant.
The American Legion Auxiliary sponsored a Polk County Highth Grade Americanism essay contest with the theme Is Patriotism Old-fashioned Each student listed wrote on the topic and the winners were Leanne Sundberg first Phyllis Ostberg second Paula Bills third The Auxiliary invites winners their mothers and Mrs Nielsen to attend the April 14 meeting at 8 00 PM at the Legion Hall where the essays will be read and prizes awarded The top essay will advance to the State Americanism contest.
Mr and Mrs Don Shoup host an open house Sunday March 23 from 2 to 4 PM at Fridhem Lutheran Church in Hordville to observe their silver wedding anniversary. Friends and relatives are invited without further invitation.
In observance of her birthday weekend visitors and callers gathered at Mrs Alfred’s home. Attendees included Mrs J A Nelson of Denver Colorado Mr and Mrs Robert Lytle Jr and Mr and Mrs Dick Boswell and families from Lincoln Mrs B Schnasse and Mr and Mrs E Schnasse Jr and baby of Wakefield. Mrs J A Nelson returned to Denver Tuesday after the visit. Julia Flodman attended a coffee party at the home of Mrs Marvin Fredricks on Friday afternoon.
Public auction of farm machinery and household goods owned by Mr and Mrs Vernon Cline will be held Friday at 1:00 PM on the farm located 3 miles south and half a mile east from Polk. Ruth Allison and Roy Hurd wed on March 8 at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the United Methodist Church Albion Nebraska with Rev. Lester Anderson officiating. Attendants were Everett Loreman, the groom's daughter, and Craig Allison of York, the bride's son. A wedding dinner followed at the Town House for guests and wedding party.
Jo Ella Stromberg and her family appeared on the Stromsburg News program then at a luncheon with Ben Stromberg. They visited York radio station KAWL where a tape was made of Jo Ella appealing for funds to help Nebraska crippled children and adults. The tape will be aired by station manager Mr Johnson and 20 additional tapes prepared for other Nebraska stations.
New contributions to the Easter Seal Fund include Mr and Mrs Rudolph Nyberg, Mr and Mrs Lloyd Morris, and Mr and Mrs Ray Werner during the week while the running total stands at 481.65 dollars.
Mr Dennis Jacobsen of Elkgrove California underwent kidney surgery at the Veterans Hospital in Martinez California on Friday. He is the son in law of Mrs Anna Kisler.
Mr and Mrs D N Butch Mills of Polk were honored at a no host family dinner at the York American Legion Home for their 50th wedding anniversary. Attending were Maurice Shockey Rick Schrader Maynard Schrader Nancy Schrader Don Sorensen Lindsay Loreman Glenn Schrader Dennis Mills Hazel Shockey. The couple wed March 12 1919 at Grand Island and lived in Polk most of their married life.
