Twenty years ago on July 18 1929 Goldie Swanson returns home from the orthopedic hospital for a vacation. William Blender and Mrs Bert Cummings suffer damaged cars and cuts after a collision one mile east of Polk on Tuesday. Mr and Mrs Oliver Adelson welcome a baby boy born Saturday July 13 at their home near Benedict. Telephone operators held a picnic Tuesday evening honoring Mass Artemise Smith resigning from service. A daughter arrives for Mr and Mrs A J Doremus at their Benedict home Sunday morning.

Minnesotan astronomer reports nearest stars in Cetus

Dr. Willem J. Luyten of the University of Minnesota announced the discovery of a pair of stars in Cetus that may be nearer to Earth than any other known star except Alpha Centauri. Plates from 1930 and 1944 and follow up with Arizona observations suggest distance under six light-years, with one star showing a recent atomic explosion.

Traffic Noise Tolerated More Than Industry Noise

George Bonvallet of Armour Research Foundation says traffic noise is less objectionable than industrial noise. He cites public tolerance based on perceived lack of reducibility and the differing patterns of noise rise and fall near the source. He notes industrial noise often starts and stops suddenly and is linked to forging and exhaust blasts.

Sights In Arizona Grand Canyon Draws Thousands

The petrified forest lies ten miles south of U S highway 66 near Holbrook in northeastern Arizona. Nearby are Sunset Crater Walnut Canyon and Wupatki national monuments and Oak Creek Canyon near Flagstaff. Williams on Route 66 is the gateway to the Grand Canyon attracting many visitors yearly.
