New Hospital and Surgical Plan Offered Here

The Progress announces Polk is selected for American Republic Hospital and Surgical Plan enrollment. American Republic, in its 20th year, offers broad hospital and surgical coverage and has enrolled residents of Nebraska communities. Accredited representatives will contact Polk households to qualify on site with official identification.

County and Home Extension Agents meet at Cowles Lake for a District Planning Conference to map the 1950 program with recreation. Four-H Camp at Seward August 4 6 costs 375 with limited spots. Conservation Camp August 9 12 costs 650 for 14 year olds and older. Local visits note Miss Mardy Hubbard guest at Ames Lind home, and several residents visiting hospitals and relatives in Omaha Lincoln and Central City.

Osceola Hosts District Junior Legion Baseball Tournament

Osceola, joined by Fremont, Wahoo and Columbus, will stage the District 7 Junior Baseball Class A double elimination tourney. Games begin July 22 with Fremont vs Wahoo at 2:30 pm and Columbus vs Osceola at 8:30 pm, winner advances to the Area B Tournament in Grand Island.

Frank Davis Polk's Aksarben Ambassador attended the Pleasant HomeMakers 4-H meeting hosted by Lavonne Anderson. He awarded Mrs Irvin Anderson the Good Neighbor Aksarben Award with a scroll and pin for Remember the Sick on May Day With a May Basket. Members judged vegetables, received project prizes, and demonstrations on washing dishes properly and measuring accurately were presented.

Merry Makers 4 H Club June and July Meetings

The Merry Makers 4 H Club met at Marcia and Judy Johnsons home for a June session with a short business meeting led by the president. Roll call suggested keeping clothes organized in the same dresser drawer and what articles belong in it. Carlyn Strand played a piano piece and a lesson on dresser drawer care followed. Free material from Spool Cotton Company was distributed. Members then played games with JoEllyn Nelsons and Judy Cramer in charge. A luncheon was served by the hostesses.

Polk County Fair Dates Set for August 23 24 25

Polk County Fair Board announced the 1949 fair schedule with the event slated for August 23 24 and 25. The carnival will be Hales Show of Tomorrow and Williams and Lee will present grandstand acts under contract. Past exhibits show 175000 square feet of machinery and organizers urge space requests to Robert L Mills or Paul Monson as availability is limited. Premium lists are near completion and will be published soon.

Polk Resident Stankel Called Home After Illness

A Polk resident named Stankel died at his home Tuesday morning following a period of illness. He passed peacefully at his residence with family nearby. The obituary notes a lingering illness as the cause and records the time of death.
