Elimination Terrace Contest Held Near Osceola August 2
Polk County farmers compete in an elimination terrace contest to enter a national event at West Point Nebraska this fall. The Aug 2 demonstration at Art Ekstrom farm eleven and a half miles west of Osceola features terracing machines and is run by the Extension Service Soil Conservation District and local implement dealers.

Polk County Blood Program Established For Free Hospital Blood
Ruth Frederick of the Red Cross Blood Center of Omaha and Drs Eklund and Anderson met Polk County Red Cross members to set up a county wide blood program. Hospitals in Polk County will have free access to fresh blood weekly with unused supply returned to Omaha. The Blood Mobile will visit Osceola at the County Court House on September 16.

Obituary for William A. Stunkel of Hordville and Polk
William A. Stunkel, 70, respected Hordville area farmer, died peacefully at home in Polk after a long illness. Born February 23, 1879 in Dunksburg Missouri, he moved with his family to Kansas and joined Emanuel Lutheran Church in 1892. He married Jeann Marie Menssen in 1903 and had four children Lewis, Raymond, Edna, and Marie. Funeral services were held July 21 at Brauer Funeral Home and Emanuel Lutheran Church. he is survived by three grandsons, one great granddaughter, one brother Henry, a stepmother, relatives, and many friends.
