Terraces Designed To Be Soil Savers For Farmers
The Soil Conservation Service describes level benches or flat channel terraces that store water and reduce erosion. Benches range 27 to 75 feet wide on slopes 1 to 5 percent with contributing areas for drainage. Costs vary by soil and slope, and wells, snow melt, and rain water are detained until soil thaws. The article invites readers to Osceola SCS office to learn about modern terrace systems seen in Polk County farms.
