Polk County Fair Kicks Off Saturday in Osceola
The 98th Polk County Fair runs four days at the Osceola fair grounds starting Saturday July 27. Service Held Tuesday For Tommie Anderson
Funeral services for Thomas J. Anderson, 57, were held Tuesday at Anderson Funeral Chapel in Stromsburg with Msgr. L. T. Obrist officiating. Burial followed in Stromsburg Cemetery. He died Sunday July 14 after a lingering illness. Survivors include his wife Annie children and stepchildren. He ran a cleaning and laundry service in Stromsburg and long operated a Polk area laundry route. His Tommie's Cleaning & Laundry truck was a familiar sight in Polk.

Polk Girls Fall in State Softball Tournament Opener
North Platte dominated Polk in state high school softball with a 20-1 win as Polk exited double elimination. Aurora later beat Polk 25-15 to end their title bid, while Fremont T Bird and Lumber Jills led the event. The district tournament is set for July with Polk hosting on July 26 28 and an All-Star game planned for Gresham on July 18.

Martin Smith Killed in Tractor Accident Near Polk
Polk farmer Martin Smith was fatally injured when a tractor he was operating for roadside weed mowing tipped over and crushed him. He died at York Hospital after being rushed from the scene. funeral arrangements were not yet announced.
