A new field device, the Soil Surgeon, combines a double-disc harrow and float to produce finer, smoother seedbeds in half the time. It uses two steel pans with 20 heavy knives each to slice and pulverize soil, seal moisture, and reduce weed seeds, finishing across furrows for even germination.

A slightly misadjusted carburetor on heavy farm tractors under load can burn about a half gallon more fuel per hour. With tractors operating roughly 50 days a year, this adds up to about 250 extra gallons annually. Proper adjustment could save about 10 percent of annual farm tractor fuel usage.
