Obituary of Freda Peterson
Freda Otelia Johnson Peterson born January 5 1886 in Dalarna Sweden came to America with her parents settling in Polk County. She married Otto E Peterson January 3 1906 and had seven children with one infant death. She lived in Polk County Sidney Nebraska and California before passing January 6 joining loved ones. She leaves two sons Myron and Floyd four daughters Irene Bernice Lela Blanche six grandchildren two great grandchildren a brother and sister and many relatives. Services were held at the local Baptist Church with Rev Paul Lemke and Rev R M Bailey. Interment in Lacleda cemetery.

Polk County Extension outlines upcoming contests and events for 4-H and cro cht work. A National Needlecraft Bureau contest awards a silver cup. entries must be made after January 1 1949 for fall fair participation. Crochet patterns, bed spreads, table cloths, hats, and bags are available at the Agricultural Extension Office while supplies last. The 4-H Timely Topic Speaking Contest occurs January 22 at the Stromsburg School. district contests run February 8–18. Ann ual meetings include Extension Service Dairy Breeders and Noxious Weed Landowners, with a 6 30 pm covered dish supper and moving pictures. E G Maxwell will conduct a pruning demonstration near Osceola with home orchard and vineyard practices. a night meeting will be held at the Courthouse. Public invited. Other county meetings are planned. several farmers attended the State Weed meeting in Lincoln, noting advances in seed treatment and new spray equipment including a self propelled unit for high corn.

The Reverend E Earle Eaton pastor of the Congregational Church is named interim professor of philosophy and religion at Nebraska Central College. He will begin second semester classes January 24 succeeding Rev Howard McKinney.
