Polk Around the Towns 1968 Developments and Changes
In 1968 Polk saw a range of civic and business changes. Polk Legion Post 160 bought the former Don's Tavern building for expanded club facilities. Dave Moore expanded auto and motor repair operations next to the Progress office. Drs from York Medical Clinic planned to re equip Polk’s clinic to offer Monday and Thursday local medical service starting January 6. Dustless street surface work began, Dutch Elm disease removal proceeded, and a Kansas Nebraska Natural Gas Co district office opened with manager Lloyd F. Albin as remodeling added a new Main Street front. Ralph Redman took Kroger’s former building for plumbing and well repair use, while Glen Hill remodeled the adjacent block front to create two new store fronts on Main Street.
