Free Gift Day Sponsored by Polk Merchants on Saturday

Polk merchants in cooperation with the Commercial Club sponsor Free Gift Day next Saturday at 3 pm. Thirty five prizes including groceries and hardware will be given to as many winners, distributed from the band stand on Main Street. Registration at The Progress Office. those registered need not re register. Music will precede the drawing and shoppers are urged to buy in Polk for Christmas.

Red Cross Report Acknowledges Donations and Finances

The Swede Plain Red Cross chapter merges with a neighboring unit after receiving 30.52 from Mrs. Frank Adelson. Over the year 1935 36 funds were disbursed 47.48 while receipts totaled 30.52. Treasury stood 152.68 on July 1 1935 and 167.42 on July 1 1936 with 34 new members this year.

Fifteenth Wedding Anniversary Celebrated at Osceola Home

About 30 guests gathered at Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Carlson’s Osceola home Sunday evening to honor their fifteenth wedding anniversary with out of town attendees from Crete Central City and Benedict. Gifts were presented and refreshments served.

John Deere Centennial Day Featured at Viking Hall

P T Wurtz and Son announce a December 14 event at Viking Hall to celebrate John Deere Centennial Day. Thanksgiving visits and gatherings across towns noted

Thanksgiving week brought visits from Agnes Weburg and others in Wahoo, Omaha, York, Kearney, Swedeburg, Lincoln, Hastings, and Central City. Numerous families hosted dinners, friends gathered for a roller skating party in Aurora, and a B Y P A service occurred. Several couples welcomed babies and a revival ended in Hordville.

Funeral services for Mrs. Wickberg held in Stromsburg

Funeral services for Mrs. O W Wickberg were held Sunday at 2 30 PM from Eden Baptist Church with Rev W E Hedburg officiating. She lived in Stromsburg for nearly fifty years and died after sudden illness at University Hospital in Omaha at age 63. Survived by husband O W Wickberg two sons Rolland G Stromsburg and Morris Wickberg Moline IL two daughters Bertha Taylor and Helen Cuda Stromsburg two sisters Ed Miller Stromsburg Evangeline Hardy Rock Island IL Interment in Stromsburg cemetery. Frances Ericson of Boulder CO and Mrs John Erickson Englewood CO visited over Thanksgiving with local friends.

Wholesale and retail dealers and employees in Polk County met at the Osceola Court House to form a county organization. Aimed at fair taxes and Nebraska motorist legislation, the group elected Harry W Pratt as chairman and C. T. Moline as secretary. Wessel and Flick Wed in York Court House Ceremony

Miss Wilma Wessel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Wessel of Bradshaw, wed Morris Flick, son of Mrs. Gertrude Flick of Poll, in a quiet York Court House ceremony officiated by Judge John L. Riddell. The couple, dressed in blue crepe and blue, held a post ceremony dinner at the bride’s home and planned a brief wedding trip to Atlantic Iowa to visit the groom’s brother Wayne before settling on a farm near Polk.
