Lloyd Krofer, manager of the Farmer's Unsign Cream Station, had a wild morning when a turkey escaped and flew through the front plate glass window. The bird roamed the back room, then sailed out the outer office, finally bursting through the large front window. Glass replacement is expected to run about $35. The turkey was captured shortly after.
A memorial service for three former Polk County bar members was held in Osceola's district court last Saturday afternoon. Judge Landis of Seward led the ceremony with a program including invocations, a vocal selection by a quartet, remarks by Supreme Court Justice L. S. Hastings and Judge W. L. Kirkpatrick, and a benediction by Rev. Melin. The honorees were John Tongue who died December 20, 1933 Judge H. H. Campbell who died September 21, 1934 and Judge E. E. Stanton who died March 9, 1936.
Colors and position of vehicle license insignia will alternate yearly to deter forgery. State Engineer A. C. Tilley and Sheriff William Flake endorse the plan as 1937 plates shift to aluminum numbers on a black field. Plates cost 3 dollars for light cars up to 200 dollars for trucks and go on sale in Osceola after Christmas per County Treasurer Smith.
The Stromsburg Evangelical Covenant Church hosts a sacred concert on Friday November 27 1936 at 8 00 P M featuring Annette Eckblade piano Mrs Harry Jacobson organ Elvira Anderson flute Rev Simon Carlson and a full program of anthems solos duets and quartets including God So Loved The World Beside Still Waters Come Ye Thankful People and Lift Thine Eyes An offering will be taken.
Mr and Mrs Charles Stettner and Maxine visited Monday in the home of Newt Klute near Bradshaw. Ross Goethe Jr received word Trumbull that his cousin Cliffton Groetz was seriously injured when he fell against a merry go round on the school yard Wednesday. Cliffton’s thigh bone was broken and he will be bedfast for several weeks. Mr and Mrs Arnold Blase and Aryghter visited at the John 4 is home at York on Saturday.
The Osceola district gathers for its annual Mission Meeting at the Lutheran Church and Swede Home with visiting pastors from York Newman Grove St Edwards Genoa and Hordville. Local families visit relatives in Waco and Kansas. Community clubs meet at Corn Palace Cafe and at home of Mr and Mrs Dewey Sigler.
Local residents enjoyed visits across Hampton Shenandoah Benedict and Osceola with gatherings hosted by the Dahling Seymour and Renquist families. Red Cross membership drives begin next week urging renewals. Sundberg and Son advertises a low priced bicycle. Social visitors included Maderow Stunkel Scheapler and Joseph households.

Trene Thesing visits Columbus project. Nellie Beth Shoaf absent for medical treatment in Lexington. Mrs Rodine and Mrs Johnson visit Polk. Junior Rodine performs violin recital in Aurora. Homer Branting family guests at Jim Branting’s Stromsburg home. Rollo Scott home hosts Frank Russell and Hollis Scott from Aurora. Holmes family shop in Grand Island with Irvie Hilligas family.
Rev and Mrs Roscoe Bailey and family and Mrs Beckman with Mildred and Dr Tedder of Wichita Kansas spent Sunday dinner with N E McNeely. Gilbert Benson and family traveled to Denver for his daughter Bretina's mertigal treatment. Bernice Lindquist visited her parents in town.
W A Cornish tendered his resignation as county surveyor and it was accepted at a county board meeting. He served for many years and seeks lighter duties. Einer Swanson of Stromsburg was appointed to fill the unexpired term.
The Walther League of the S.M. Lutheran Church held its regular monthly meeting Tuesday evening led by Rev. Juerguensen who highlighted the Ten Objects of the League. The Secretary of Christian Service reported the Christmas Seal Campaign underway with proceeds to the Tubercular Sanitarium at Wheatridge Colorado. It was decided that future social gatherings will be hosted at members' homes.

Miss Emma Carlson born in Sweden Iowa on September 6 1859 died after a prolonged illness at her niece Miss Minnie Carlson home She had lived in the community for years Surviving are a niece and several distant relatives.

Firefighters battled a stubborn blaze Saturday night that heavily damaged Glen Martin Drug Store and the JeWell Club Room under a shared roof. The fire started in a wall fed by wiring and was discovered shortly after 6 00. The Martin Drug Store stock was likely a total loss and the Club Room stock and fixtures were badly harmed. Water damage from fighting the fire worsened losses in both buildings.
Swede Home residents share weekend visits with family in Saunders County and York. A baby girl born to Mr and Mrs Alfred Youngdahl Sunday, November 22. Services for Thanksgiving Day planned at Swede Home Church with free will offering.
Rosemary Crow of Omaha spent the weekend with her parents Mr and Mrs Arnold Crow. Mr and Mrs Clarence Cain of Benedict and Mr and Mrs George Otteo joined dinner at Mr and Mrs David Dornburgh’s home. A group from the Standard Bearer Girls met at the York Methodist Church. Mr and Mrs David Carlson and family of Fremont visited friends in Polk County Sunday.
