Minnesota No 1 is a new highly inbred pig strain not a hybrid. It results from crosses among Danish Landrace Typical Minnesota No 1 and 2 cross barrow Tamworth first raised in 1936 at the University of Minnesota. The breed is long bodied short legged with a full hum light shoulder and light strong bone. Breeders were chosen for fertility survival growth rate and economy of gains.
