Final Polk Band Concert Scheduled Next Wednesday Evening

The Polk Band will present its final summer concert from the band stand on Main Street next Wednesday at 8 30 p m. Director S A Ramp reports final rehearsal is Monday August 25 and the group plans another strong season. The band thanks the Polk community for its support and notes weekly attendance over forty.

Gravel truck breaks loose in Osceola damaging five cars

A gravel truck rolled down a hill near the Osceola square striking five cars including two Buicks, a Plymouth and two Chevrolets. Driven by Joe McCright of Wahoo the unattended truck gained momentum after stopping at the courthouse corner and knocked down a telephone pole before coming to a halt.

Carl Otto Stettner Dies at 76 in Hampton Nebraska

Carl Otto Stettner born December 6 1872 Wishkill New York son of August and Katrinna Stettner spent youth around Sutton and Hampton Nebraska. He married Clara Kinte on April 21 1897 and had three daughters Erna Peterson Ella Gray and Maxine Jensen. He leaves wife three daughters nine grandchildren one great grandchild three brothers four sisters and many relatives. Funeral services were held at Zion Lutheran Church in Hampton with burial there.

Lind Reunion at Buckley Park Holds Twentieth Annual Meeting

Lind families gathered at Buckley Park for the 20th annual reunion on August 12.72 attended with three guests. A chicken dinner followed a short business session. The secretary noted six new members joining by birth or marriage, and four original members attended. The 1967 committee includes Esther Gustafson, Bernice Lind, and Anna Anderson.

County polio meeting in Osceola elects Polk chapter officers

A county wide Osceola meeting August 12 featured Canton Belknap of Lincoln, state director for the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. Polk County Chapter officers were chosen: Chairman Edith Heilman, Vice Chairman Olive McBeth, Secretary Leo Larson, Treasurer Carleton Anderson, and Member at Large Iva Cramer. Plans for local drives to fund the program will be organized in each town.

Stop Driving Orders Hit Nebraska Motorists

Dwight Havens of the Nebraska State Safety Council reports that 26 223 motorists received Stop Driving orders under the Safety Responsibility Law within two years. Most revocations arose from drunken driving and serious offenses, with 4 805 mandatory revocations for court convictions and 3 079 suspensions due to failing to report accidents. The law requires proof of financial responsibility after injurious incidents or property damage over 50 dollars.

Visitors from Omaha Palmer Raymond St Paul and Lincoln dropped by area homes for dinners and calls. Nancy Johnson and Barbara Johnson from Stromsburg stayed with the Lee Morris family. Sally Norquest celebrated her 4th birthday with a party hosted by Mrs Norquest.

Polk County Fair enters final days with exhibits and shows

As the 68th annual Polk County Fair continues, exhibitors show strong interest in farm equipment displays. A varied lineup of baseball and stage performances will entertain visitors over the next two days, with the fair concluding Thursday night.

County extension notes preview the 1947 Polk County Fair 4-H events with 216 beginners, judging in livestock and crops Thursday morning and foods and sewing contests for girls on Tuesday afternoon. Demonstrations in the Girls 4-H Building begin at 9:00 a.m. Thursday with team and individual entries and new achievements planned for August 27.

Soil conserving grants still available through AAA office

Limited funds remain for soil conserving practices to be carried out this fall. Prior approval must come from the County AAA Committee. Office representatives will stake out dams and run terrace lines at no cost to farmers. Stop in at the AAA office for information on technical assistance and potential benefit payments.

C G Johnson Family Reunion Held

The annual C G Johnson family reunion was held Sunday at Osceola park with 123 present. Nine births, one adoption and two marriages were reported in the past year and next year’s reunion will be at the same time and place. Distances covered included Los Angeles Omaha Mohnee Aurora Wausa Bloomfield York and other Nebraska towns.
