Sudden Death of Melvin Ethington Shocks Exeter Community
Word spread of Melvin Ethington's death on Sunday after a heart attack while at a downtown cafe with family. Born October 24, 1913 in Edgar, Nebraska, he was 34 years old and had a long record of public service and teaching before aiding in Smith farms operations near Exeter since 1945. He served on the Exeter village board, was a deacon and usher at the Congregational church, led the Exeter Volunteer Fire Department, and worked with local baseball leagues. He married Dorothea Ruth Smith in 1940 and leaves three daughters Carol Ann, Jean Loraine, and Barbara Ruth, plus his mother, sister, and father-in-law. Funeral services were held at the Congregational church with burial in Exeter Cemetery.

Joseph C Larson born August 15 1886 near Stromsburg Nebraska died July 21 at St Francis Hospital Osceola after arriving from San Diego to visit his sister Son of Lewis and Sophie Larson he lived in Stromsburg Central City Hastings and San Diego He was survived by relatives and many friends Funeral services were held July 24 at Brauer Funeral Home with Rev J E Tracy directing Interment was in Stromsburg cemetery The poem notes he is not dead just away.
