Honored on 20th Wedding Anniversary
Rev and Mrs Long celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary at Immanuel Lutheran Church basement with songs and readings by Elmer Wilshusen and Irvin Light couples. Rowena Light sang a solo and a boys quartet performed four numbers. Mrs Norman Reetz read and Mrs Ray Werner played piano. Short talks by the couple concluded the evening with cake ice cream and coffee.

Numerous residents and relatives from Oakland California Denver Colorado Lincoln and Sterling plus local towns visited and hosted events in Arborville and nearby homes. Gatherings included dinners suppers and a church wedding with extended family trips to California and Nebraska locations.
Swede Home Church marks 75th anniversary celebration
About 2300 attended the Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church Swede Home service for its 75th anniversary last week. 900 registered with 156 from outside the area. Offerings exceed $550 for Lutheran World Action Bethphage Mission Luther College and Immanuel Deaconess Institute.

AAA Announces Grain Storage Plans
At a district meeting in Central City on August 10 the Nebraska Production and Marketing Administration and county AAA committees outlined steps to store the 1948 crop. They projected a national shortfall of 850 to 900 million bushels and urged immediate farm storage expansion, with loans and purchase agreements to support prices and a survey to determine storage needs. Temporary storage is seen as part of the solution.

Arrangements set for boys and girls awards at the county fair with a $75 fund from local businessmen. A $5 prize will be given in 15 classifications including Grand Champion Steer Heifer Purebred entries showmanship crops and 4-H contests. Blue ribbon livestock and showmanship winners can compete for grand titles. Donations by multiple local banks businesses and merchants.

Osceola Junior Legion team leaves Thursday for a two day road trip to Phillipsburg Kansas for a game with the Phillipsburg team. The trip covers about two hundred miles and includes a tour of the Co op Refinery and a stop at the Harlan County dam in Alma Nebraska. The return game at Osceola will be a Polk County Fair feature. Local business leaders join the players for transport and lodging.

The Class A Area E American Legion Junior baseball tournament ended with Grand Island defeating Fremont 7-6 to claim the title. Rain caused schedule delays but games were completed Sunday night with Grand Island also beating Norfolk 10-5 earlier and Fremont overcoming Wahoo 6-0 before the final.
