Shower Honors Mrs. Jankey With Easter Themed Party

A shower at Mrs. Claus Oberg’s home honored Mrs. Ted Jankey with pink and white decorations. Mrs. Nettie Carlson and Miss Nannie Carlson assisted as games provided prizes fit for Easter. A luncheon followed the activities.

Ten Polk County clubs host farm family program at Osceola

Ten extension women’s clubs in Polk county will present the annual program to the public on Friday April 24 at 2 PM in the Presbyterian Church in Osceola. A panel discussion will be demonstrated with both men and women sharing ideas on What Makes a Good Day for the Farm Family. Men are invited and women may bring their husbands.

Pasture Contest Entries Attract Nebraska Farmers

Large Crowd Attends Polk Commercial Club Meeting

More than seventy business and professional leaders gathered at the Polk Commercial Club in the 10.0.F. dining hall for the monthly session. The event followed the membership drive that added eighty new members. Entertaining lapses featured impersonations by men dressed as women, with several business girls waitressing in male attire during the banquet and entertainment hour.

Pleasant Hill Mission Circle marks 25th anniversary

The Pleasant Hill Missionary Circle celebrated its 25th anniversary at John and Adelson home April 8 with about fifty attendees. A three tier white cake with 25 candles and silver leaves was centerpiece, cake made by Mrs Rudolph Gustafson. Charter members present were Mesdames P T Larson Grant Willitts Claire Willits and John Adelson.

Swede Home Area Guests and Anniversary Celebrations

A list of visitors to the Oscar Fredrickson home includes Swede Home residents and townsfolk from York Stromsburg and Benedict. The Pleasant Hill Mission Circle marked its 25th anniversary at John Adelson’s home with an anniversary cake by Mrs Rudolph Gustafson and silver candles for charter members. The Swede Home Luther League and Capella Chorus events are noted with plans for a program on April 22 and Easter related activities.

Obituary: Oscar O. Johnson 1876 1936

Oscar O Johnson was born in Kewanee Illinois on June 22 1876. He moved to Nebraska in 1881 and lived on a farm north of Stromsburg until his death on April 6 1936 at his sister’s home. He was 59 years 9 months and 17 days old. Survived by one sister Mrs Warner Samuels and four brothers Wm E Axel S Fred J of Stromsburg and Edward of Central City. Funeral at Warner Samuels home with burial Swede Plain cemetery. Mrs S C Daniels of Denver spent Easter with Arnold Isaacson family.

Polk County Spelling Contest Crowns School Champions

One hundred thirty four children registered for the Polk County spelling contest held at Osceola High School on April 11. Winners spanned fourth through eighth grades with top placers advancing to Interstate Sioux City and World Herald Omaha events, and statewide Lincoln contest. Bob Hansen and Kathryn Huston highlighted by advancing to Sioux City and Lincoln events, with $500 in World Herald awards forthcoming.
