Obituary of J Edmund Stevens Dies Near Chappell at 67

J Edmund Stevens born December 29 1880 in Polk County Nebraska died near his Chappell home on March 27 1948 aged 67 years two months and 20 days. He farmed attended Cooper Methodist Church served in the Odd Fellows Lodge and worked as a mail carrier and in auto delivery before moving to a farm north of Chappell in 1919. Survived by his widow Signe four children six grandchildren a great grandchild and several siblings. Funeral services were held at the Chappell and Polk Methodist Churches with Rev A Bates officiating. interment followed.

Carl Oscar Larson born September 13 1877 in New Sweden Jefferson County Iowa died April 8 1948 in Stromsburg hospital at 70 years 6 months 25 days He moved with his family to Polk County in 1883 and farmed near Polk with brother Emil until 1921 He then relocated to Polk where he lived with support from Emil sister in law Mrs Westher Peterson and her mother Funeral services were held Monday at the Baptist Church with Rev Paul Lemke and Rev R M Bailey assisting

21st Annual Session of Rebekahs of Dist 14

The 21st annual session of the Rebekahs District 14 convened in Shelby at WORF Hall on April 10. Polk delegates demonstrated bonoting. State Assembly President Bertha Graber and Assembly Secretary Lois A. Clarris attended with several past presidents. 128 registered, luncheon at Evangelical United Brethren Church, afternoon session drew more registrants. New officers elected: President Monetha Burritt Shelby, Vice President Nina Bond Osceola. Convention closed with Rising City inviting the 1949 gathering.

Wednesday evening Harold Etter will show motion pictures from the Philippines and China at the church. Etter recently returned to this country and attends the service at the invitation of Pastor Temke.
