Foreign Correspondent Bill McGaffin Visits Polk

William McGaffin foreign correspondent for the Chicago Daily News and former Polk resident was a dinner guest of Mr and Mrs Arnold Isaacsun last Saturday. He has been in the country four months, treated at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, and stayed in California with sister Mrs Wallace Scott before leaving Monday for a London assignment.

Polk County 4-H Club to sponsor free farmers meeting

The Polk County Soil Conservation 4-H Club invites all farmers to a Thursday evening program on April 15 at 7 45 p.m. A Polk High School band will perform a 45 minute set before the district eliminations in Albion. The second half features the film Regimented Raindrops about soil conservation. Donations from businessmen funded the event.

David A Mayo Dies at Wichita

Obituary notes David Augustus Mayo born January 6 1873 York Nebraska died March 5 1948 Wichita Kansas aged 75. He joined the Methodist Church early, served on its official board, married Emma Wulf in 1895 producing five children two predeceased him. He moved from York to Garden City in 1920 farmed north of town, dairied then retired. His second wife Simmona Jane Warnick survived with two sons one daughter and two sisters and two brothers preceded him.

Polk Students Attend Music Festival At Stromsburg

Polk county teachers report a large music festival at Stromsburg with 800 students from six schools, 65 participants in 19 events, and judges Walter Olson and Willard Congreve praising performances while urging support for district competition in Albion. Missionary Conference at Evangelical Free Church

Six missionaries representing China Africa and South America will speak at a three day missionary conference at the Evangelical Free Church of Polk from Monday April 12 through Wednesday April 14. Services begin nightly at 8 o clock with Rev Arthur G Lindquist describing work in the far East and Misses Taine Nyberg Esther Carlon and Grace Folin detailing Venezuela. Rev aml Mrs Brick Schone of Newman Grove Nebraska also speak and Milford Olson presides. Admission is free and the public is invited.
