Polk County Couple Observe Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary

A Polk County couple celebrates fifty years of marriage with a family gathering at their home. The event honors long marriages and includes relatives from North Dyatte Nebraska to Aurora, with many guests and well wishing friends attending.

County Extension News Sewing Machine Clinic Held

A profitable sewing machine clinic was held last Monday in the hotel dining room with six machines cleaned and adjusted by Miss Stelen Rocke John Steele from the State Extension Office and County Home Extension Agent Margaret Crosby. Attendees included Mrs Arthur Ekstrom Mrs Albert Teegerstrom Mrs Paul Strand Mrs Fred Youngdahl Mrs A Ramp and Mrs A C Bates with machines from Ladied Fr ee Franklin Wheeler Metrix Singer and Wilson. Plans were announced for the State Women’s Council meeting at York June 4 10 11 and County Council meeting May 5. The Project Women’s Spring Tea and Bread Demonstration is planned for May 23 at Stromsburg Nome Economics rooms inviting members to bring guests. Mr and Mrs Fildon Anderson of Stromsburg and Mr and Mrs Gerald Stevens visited in the home of their parents.

Conservation meeting draws over 400 attendees in Polk County

Osceola auditorium hosted a Polk County event organized by the 4-H Conservation Club. The evening featured the Polk High School Band, voice recordings, and a film about water use and soil conservation from the Rockies to the Gulf, highlighting national and local conservation responsibilities.

Final county results in Nebraska All Star primary election

Polk County voters gave incumbent L. M. Merrick a clear vote in county judge race. Lester Anderson was renominated for legislature with CG. W. Moon close behind. Peterson led Republican governor race. Swanson second in Democratic congress race. Stassen won GOP presidential preference. Dewey Taft MacArthur Vandenberg Warren Martin followed. Velyifan Monson Weds Don Herbig in Central City

Velva Jean Monson daughter of Mr and Mrs Gust Monson of Polk married Don Terbig son of Mr and Mrs Walter Terbig of Central City on Friday April 9 at the Methodist Parsonage Central City. Rev Lowell Jones performed the ceremony at 2 pm with attendants Pauline Douthit and Don Land. The bride wore a peacock wine dress with white accessories and white and red carnation corsage. The groom, an Army veteran, works at McCullough Motor Co and the couple will reside in Central City.

Series of Gospel Services at Evan Free Church

Rev H G Rudine of Minneapolis secretary of Missions of the Evangelical Free Church of America will conduct two series of Gospel Services at the local Evangelical Free Church from April 28 to May 2. Evening services begin at 8 o clock with two services on Sunday and Saturday evenings featuring mission film displays. Bodine, a Polk native and former missionary, has spent years in China and Africa and will share experiences. All are welcome to hear this missionary leader and preacher.

Former resident dies at Spirit Lake Iowa

John Elving born in Sweden March 16 1888 died Spirit Lake hospital April 10 1948 aged 60 years 24 days. He emigrated to America at 14 and lived near Polk Nebraska before marrying Selma Hokenson October 6 1909. They moved to Spirit Lake February 29 1929 later to Stockford and back to Spirit Lake. Funeral services were held Thursday with burial at Lake View Cemetery Spirit Lake.

Funeral Services for John Collison at Ord Nebraska

John S. Collison died March 25 in Brainard Nebraska aged about 90. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Ord with burial in the Ord cemetery. He was born in Sweden November 15 1861 and came to the United States at age nine, living in Galva Illinois then Polk County Nebraska. He later owned Fort Hart S S uff ranch property, moved to Ord in 1906 and entered milling in 1931. He and his wife Alice later moved to Campbell to be with son Oliver and spent winters with daughter Mrs Wright in Brainard. He is survived by his widow a daughter and four sons.
