Pleasing Palm Sunday Concert by Polk Community Chorus

The Polk Community Chorus directed by Rev. Gene Wood presented an Easter cantata No Greater Love in the high school auditorium. Over 250 attended as Rev. Al Moyer gave the narration and Mrs. Robert Merchant accompanied. Soloists included Arlyce Lind and others. new officers were named for next year.

All Sports Banquet Draws Large Crowd

About 300 diners attended the All Sports banquet at Polk High School auditorium Monday evening. Don Hanquist and Lynda Myers were crowned king and queen by last year’s royalty Dennis Carlstrom and Carol Stromberg. Bob Zenner of KOLN KGIN TV spoke. Coaches Rodney Wightman and Gary Tranmer gave award presentations.

A Union Good Friday Service is set for 1 30 p m at the Evangel Free Church. The service will last about one hour. Pork business houses will be closed from 1 to 3 p m.

Polk Cubs Win Burg Triangular Track Meet

The Polk Cubs won a triangular meet at Burg last Thursday March 31 with 614% points. Stromsburg 5344 and Clarks 3444. Dick Sealey led with 14% points winning the broad jump 19 ft 9 in and the 100 in 11.0. Don Sealey added 124% with a 2 point margin. Norman Reckner and Dick Sealey helped on the winning mile and 880 relays. The squad faces Henderson next and hosts Polk County Track Meet on April 14 starting at noon.

Westside Birthday Club Meets. Palm Sunday Services Shared

The Westside Birthday Club gathered Monday afternoon March 28 at Jo Ostberg’s home with twelve members and eight visitors. Edith Benson and Margaret Jones celebrated March birthdays as Alma Lampshire exhibited slides of a South America trip. A carry-in lunch followed. Rev. Harold Jensen led Palm Sunday services at the Good Samaritan Home Osceola and Swede Plain church choir performed several numbers.

New Members Appointed to Village and School Boards

Gerald Stevens becomes a member of School District No. 72 Board of Education, while Larry Killion wins a seat on the village board. In the school race, Stevens and incumbent Robert Willits tied at 98, Floyd Merchant 92, Wayne Ramsey 81. In the village contest, Killion defeats Nick McNaught 57 to 54 for a two year term. incumbents Dick Harless and Norris Alfred win re election.

Here I Am Baby Born to Warneke Family in Central City

A baby boy named Jeffrey Lynn Warneke was born Sunday at Central City hospital. He weighed T lbs 12 oz. Parents are Mr and Mrs Arlan Warneke. The notice also mentions Marvin Nelson and Joyce Christensen in connection with a March 28 birth at Valley Hospital in Ord.

Polk County Sees Strong Signatures for Property Tax Petition

Walter Berck reports Polk County is ahead in gathering petition signatures to place the property tax issue on the November ballot. The goal is 853, with 1091 collected so far. Key signers include Martin Jones 118, Robert W. Bryan 59, Homer Ingalls 54, Howard Boden 51, plus others. Organizers include Farm Bureau members and local farm groups in Polk County.
