Night crawlers invade Polk lawns amid blizzard notes

Busy Polk High Weekend Schedule Includes Track Meet

Polk High track squad competes in a triangular meet with Clarks and Stroms burg at Stromsburg on Thursday March 31. On Saturday April 1 the Junior class play No Boys Allowed debuts at 8:00 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Monday April 4 the All Sports Banquet takes place in the high school auditorium with Bob Zenner of KOLN TV as speaker. Tickets are sold by senior high girls.

Nebraska WSCS Nebraka Conference Attendees Gather in Grand Island

The annual Nebraska Conference of the WSCS met at Trinity Methodist in Grand Island March 22 24. Mrs Mervin Samuels attended all three days. Wednesday’s meetings and banquet drew Mrs Harold Jensen Mrs Arlo Stevens Mrs Oscar Sundberg Mrs Gerald Stevens Mrs C Marvin Fredrickson Mrs Oscar Gustafson of Aurora and Mrs N E McNaught. McNaught and Stromberg also attended Tuesday. Swede Plain attendees at the banquet included Mr and Mrs Willard Adelson Mr and Mrs Lester Widga Mr and Mrs Donald Dahlin and Mrs Harvey Lind.

Pastor Joseph Hu Honored at Immanuel Lutheran Farewell

The Immanuel Lutheran church honored Pastor Joseph Hu his wife and family after his farewell sermon on Sunday. Following the service lunch was served in the church parlor as the Hu family prepares to move to Yuma Arizona where he will serve as pastor of Christ Lutheran Church.

An 8 lb 15 oz baby girl named in the birth announcement to Mr and Mrs Marvin Bankson born Tuesday March 29 at Central City hospital.

Amphibious Congo eels and the hell-bender noted

A Missouri sighting mentions Congo eels, possibly range into Nebraska, though not true eels. They breathe via gill clefts and are deemed ugly except by biologists. Edwin cites the hell-bender a more salamander like, wider in range. The writer recalls a boy with a book report envy about polar bears.

Three Men Forwarded to Omaha for Induction

Polk County Local Board No. 75 sent three men to Omaha on Thursday morning March 24 for induction into the Armed Forces. Six others were forwarded for physical examinations. Inductees are Gerald Gondringer Osceola Larry Coover Clarks and Terry Carman Columbus. A physical examination call for April targets nine men, but no induction call is issued for April.

Local Students Earn Top Honors at Kearney Contests

Lois Willis placed in the upper 5 percent of Home Economics, and Wayne Heiden in the upper 7 percent of Advanced Algebra at the Kearney Inter Scholastic Contests at Kearney State College on March 18. Five others scored in the 10 to 80 percent band, with notable marks by Ar lyce Lind 88 in Advanced Typing and Jean Larkin 85 in American Government.

Shower Honors Miss Anita Mundt

A miscellaneous shower in Zion Lutheran School basement near Hampton honored Miss Anita Mundt on Sunday afternoon March 27. Green and white decorations and lunch framed the event. Bridal games accompanied the afternoon as gifts were presented to the bride-to-be. An attractive lunch was served to 47 guests by her aunts.

Village and School Elections Tuesday

Village voters head to polls next Tuesday to choose three village trustees from N B E McNaught Dick Harles Kenneth Werner Larry Killion Glen Leverington and Norris Alfred. Two of four candidates will fill the School Board seats in District No 72 Robert Willits Wayne Ramsey Gerald Stevens and Floyd Merchant. Polls open 8 a m to 8 p m in the Hotel building.
