Mr and Mrs R L Spotts and Mr and Mrs Herbert Coppell and Mr and Mrs John Weeks of New York spent the week here and expressed delight with their first impressions of the place.
A stream of guests arrives at the Holly Inn, including Mrs. William H. Micou and Mr. William C. Micou of New York who will remain until spring, and Mrs. Katherine Dear of Jersey City who plans an indefinite sojourn. Others gathered for varying visits include Mr. Michael Brinker of Pittsburgh, Miss M. F. Abbott of New York, Mr. and Mrs. Rathbone and Miss Rathbone of Detroit, and families from Washington, Buffalo, Seattle, Boston, Richmond, and New York, with stays ranging from a week to six weeks.
Amesbury and nearby residents and guests are noted arriving for the season or visiting for extended stays. Names include I C Comerais Adams Litchfield Dexter Labcot Shepard Ames Worcester Fries Smith Livingston Shea DeLamater Clark Gardner Whiteside Nichols Gaurie Stevenson Van Houten Longfellow among others, with periods indicated as for February spring or indefinite visits.
A brisk chase early in the week saw hunters pursue a fox through rough terrain for about eighty miles. The quarry showed vigor but the pack closed in within sight of the finish, with Miss Myrtle Reed awarded the brush for her turn in the hunt.
The past week at The Bowling Alley saw high scores from both genders. K. L. Jewett leads the season with 181, Edward Rode close at 176, and C. W. Broecker holds the duck pin record at 95. Ladies high is 110. Prizes offered. all bowlers invited to compete.
Miss Ruth French was hostess at a jolly rarebit party for the younger set at The Carolina Thursday evening.
