Great Lake Ontario Marine Sanctuary bid nears submission
Oswego County and regional officials say they are in the final stages of an application to create the Great Lake Ontario Marine Sanctuary in southeast Lake Ontario. The 193 mile shoreline would cover parts of Wayne Cayuga Jefferson and Oswego counties including the city of Oswego. The plan aims to protect about 80 shipwrecks and attract jobs and millions in economic activity.
