Erosion Raids Take High Toll on Farm Soil
CHICAGO reports the Middle West Soil Improvement committee says erosion costs the U S nearly four billion dollars annually. It cites U S Soil Conservation Service estimates that wind and water erosion remove 21 times as much plant food as crops taken off. Dr H H Bennett says annual loss reaches 3 844 000 000 with about one billion acres needing conservation to protect productivity. The group calls for a broad program including legumes crop rotation fertilizer use and pasture improvement to rebuild soil fertility.

Water Brings $1 Barrel in Drouth
Fall rains eased a Texas drouth with odd effects. Aspermont residents paid a dollar per barrel for drinking water.
