Osceola residents voted in a special election to reject a bond issue to buy the Consumers distribution system. Ward results show First Ward 66 for 111 against and Second Ward 4104 for 125 against.
Martin Shemek returned from the Philippines and stays with his parents. Alfred and both Gondringer and Valesak couples hosted Sunday dinner with Louis Shemek. Leona Shemek, working in Hastings, spent Sunday with her parents. Aloise Shemek, from Cheyenne, came home Saturday. District 13 pupils enjoyed a two day vacation last week while teacher Opal Schiesinger attended a state teachers convention in Lincoln.
William E. Rosenberry born in Franklin County Pennsylvania May 13 1858 died in Shelby Nebraska October 21 1946 aged 88 years 5 months 8 days He lived on a farm south of Shelby and spent years roaming the U S Funeral services conducted at Kepner Funeral Home Osceola October 23 with Rev W F Payne of Gresham officiating burial at Blue Ridge Cemetery.

Osceola football team coached by Shada defeated Genoa 12 to 6 on Wednesday night at Genoa, ending a string of bad luck for the locals and securing a needed victory.
Dolores McCormick daughter of Mr and Mrs Jay McCormick of Silver Creek wed Robert M Moore son of Mrs Edith Richards of Osceola at the Silver Creek Methodist parsonage. Rev H F Beebe officiated with immediate families present. The bride wore rose silk crepe and velvet with pink roses. attendants wore aqua green. The groom and best man Victor Snyder wore blue with white carnation boutonnieres. The couple planned a brief stop in Omaha before settling in Lincoln where Moore would study at the Lincoln School of Commerce.
A Sunday afternoon bridal shower for Lola Miller was hosted at the Parish Hall in Shelby. Guests included Mrs. Claude James, Mr. and Mrs. Jack From, Mrs. John Birkel, Carolyn and Genevieve from David City, and Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Sutter of Columbus among others visiting local families during the day.
Judge L. M. Merrick issued licenses to wed to three couples last week. Miss Donna Marie Twarling, daughter of Mr and Mrs Walter Twarling living southeast of here, united in marriage Sunday evening at her parents home to Richard Anderson, son of Mr and Mrs Norris Anderson of Stromsburg. They will live on a farm east of Polk. Miss Mary Nek and Emil Chioup ek, both of Rising City, were married Tuesday morning at Sacred Heart Church in Shelby, Father John Kean officiating. A license was also issued to Mrs Clara Marie Mueller of Columbus and Frank A. Lisko of Osceola.
Members of the Osceola W.S.C.S. are invited to a Lincoln Council of Church Women gathering at the 1st Methodist Church Lincoln on Tuesday November 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The program features Mrs. Binsteadt of Cardiff Wales a leader in Methodist Missionary Society work. Luncheon will be served and interested individuals should contact Mrs. G. A. Randall at once.

County extension reports Bill W. B. Dake gained temporary freedom from rat worries after a demonstration at the Dake farm. The event used 2 pounds of cyano gas 2 pounds of Federal squill bait and about 214 hours time to show a portable sprayer for spot treatment by Weed District directors.
In 1945 three plantings of Hubam sweet clover with oats were made by Paul Swanson Paul Monson and John Ernst. The Hans Ernst plot indicates Hubam has potential with corn yields exceeding those on manured land or fertilizer. Members of the Polk County Crop Improvement Association promote studies of crops practices and soils and invite new members to participate.

The Parish Hall in Shelby hosts a Miller Wallace wedding dance on Tuesday November 5 with music by Bobby Mills. The program includes a 9:00 march and admission of 50 cents with tax included.
John Westfall Riblett born June 17 1871 near Carthage Illinois died October 21 1946 in Gem Kansas at 75. He moved with family to Nebraska and Kansas and married Nina B Smith July 3 1894. Survived by wife two sons two daughters twenty one grandchildren five great grandchildren two sisters three brothers and many relatives. Funeral held at home and Rising City Methodist Church with Rev BE Price and Rev H B Lansing officiating. Grandsons served as pallbearers and many relatives attended from across the region.

Osceola resident W W Norton was chosen 7th District Commander at the closing session in Osceola. He succeeds Frank J Tooley of Columbus. The Auxiliary kept its officers for a second term led by District President Stella Nelson of Columbus. Dodge was named for the 1947 district convention site with about 300 Legion and Auxiliary members present.
Central City visitors Mr and Mrs Chas Dahlgren stopped by Saturday. Halloween activities drew 25 Sun School children at the parsonage with supper and games led by Mrs Horstman and helpers. Royal Neighbors and Modern Woodmen held a hard time party at Hardville Hall with prizes for costumes. Baby born to Mr and Mrs Hillis Sterner on Oct 25 in Stroms burg Hospital. Local guests included Leonard Nelson of Grand Island and Esther Newman visitations.
