Alan Garth, a lone prospector, is preparing to depart for his mining claim when a plane arrives at the emergency station carrying Burton Ramill, his daughter Lilith, and Vivian Huxley. They misjudge Garth, call the ore nearly worthless, and propose an air trip to the claim.
Garth guides Lilith Ramill and her father and Huxley ashore to inspect his mine claim a rich placer hold. After fending off a scheme to cheat him, he learns the trio plans to steal the fortune, and Garth slips away to thwart them as he heads toward the plane.
The 1916 conscription act leaves Jersey Island’s population of 60 000 largely Norman French speaking untouched yet its regular army of three officers and three other ranks stands ready to be expanded under old laws.
