Osceola faced Fullerton on October 11 at home. Fullerton struck early with two touchdowns and another in the second quarter while Rutter's 70 yard kickoff return set up Osceola’s score. Fullerton added four more touchdowns as Osceola's defense struggled but the offense produced several long passes.
Polk County farmers face questions about feeding frosted but unmature crops. Nebraska researchers advise silage with proper fermentation, noting no reported cane or sorghum poisoning when fed after complete ensilage. Experts L Van Es and H J Gramlich offer circulars for guidance.
Mrs. H C Hansen remains in Osceola Hospital after a heart attack under Dr R L Schroeder care. Mrs Ted Anderson, operated on by Dr Schroeder, is to be dismissed late this week. Orlie Conkling received medical attention at Osceola Hospital after finger loss in a bailer, with Schroeder treating him. Ralph DeLand was treated at Osceola Hospital for a gunshot foot injury after a domestic accident, under Dr Schroeder.
Hackberry area notes show the Green's Chapel Ladies Aid set a meeting and annual trip to the Emmons home six miles north of Stromsburg on October 24. The Victor Club schedules its regular meeting October 22 at Mrs. Dwight Newcomer’s home. Local visits include Alfred Torell family from Omaha and R. R. Finley visiting Harry Obrist in Polk County.
Wesley Chapel Aid will serve chicken dinner and supper with an afternoon lunch on Saturday October 19 at Hansen's Meat Market. The group will also have dressed chickens for sale.
Announcement of Miss Theo Smith marrying Gene Myers at Washington Kansas on June 25 1937 lists the couple as Polk residents. Bride is daughter of R L Smith. groom son of Z F Myers. They are Polk High School graduates class of 1932 and attended state university last year. They plan home with groom's grandmother Mrs. Jane Orndorf in Zanesville Ohio after a wedding trip.
Shelby residents report a hand injury to Bess Ray treated by Dr. Blum after a table bump. Local movements include Lynn Snider visiting from Cheyenne and Emory Kuhnel group traveling to Omaha to see A E Kuhnel in hospital. A seven pound baby boy born October 11 to Mr. and Mrs. Chiorus Pointer at University Hospital Omaha.
Osceola Women's Club units plan gatherings on Monday October 21. The Literature Division meets at 2:30 PM with Mrs. James Inness. a lesson on Ethiopia is led by her. The Junior Literature Division, led by Mrs. Paul Engelhart, convenes at 7:30 PM with a book review by Mrs. W. R. Kepner, Mrs. Clayton Rystrom and Mrs. P. B. Campbell. The Music Division meets at the school house at 7:30 PM for the first rehearsal. all members should attend.
Frank Hewitt, a local farmer near Osceola, buys City Meat Market from Pat O Grady and takes possession immediately. O Grady has no immediate plans for the future. Hewitt is well known locally, and friends wish him success in his new business venture.
An 80 acre improved parcel near Osceola on a graveled highway is for sale. Inquiries directed to this office for details and price.
The Fairview Ladies Aid sponsors a chicken supper at the hall this Friday evening with meals priced at 15 and 25 cents. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Miss Olive McBeth County Superintendent of Schools leads a county wide accident prevention drive under Polk County Red Cross with 118 teachers guiding 3 051 students to spread safety messages to homes. The message cites 34 000 deaths and 5 000 000 injuries last year from home accidents and urges community support.
About forty members of the Stromsburg Post of American Legion attended a dinner at Scott Hall Tuesday evening followed by a business meeting where Wesley Ericson was named Commander and Ivan Bengston became Adjutant. The group also elected A. K E. Bodine Financial Secretary Carl Lind Chaplain and assistants Dr L V Sharp and Alvin Swanson.
Columbus visitors include Mrs Edmond Schott and Mrs Silas Barnes with several families. Dist 13 kittenball beat Dist 54 15 to 5 near Silver Creek. A shower for Miss Rose Kielian bride to be of Adolph Kresha drew about 500 relatives and friends at Eller's hall. Raymond Nelson of Silver Creek visited the Silas Barnes home Sunday.
Osceola Record announces the second period of its $3500 Prize Distribution campaign closes October 19 at 10 p m. Candidates must report semi weekly or be dropped. The piece urges persistent effort, highlights new $100 prizes, and explains how votes and subscriptions boost standings toward a final victory.
District No 2 presents a slate including Mrs C Marvin Fredrickson from Clarks Roy L Erickson of Stromsburg Miss Addie Carter of Gresham and Mrs Harry Westergren from Osceola as potential nominees for local office.
On Tuesday night October 22 at the Stromsburg Methodist Church Dr William Oeschger former Chancellor of Corner College will present an illustrated talk on gambling detailing games and devices including Faro Poker Baccarat Craps Policy Roulette Hazard Three Card Monte Slot Machines Punch Boards Pari Mutuel Lotteries and more The Polk County Anti Pari Mutuel Gambling Association will be organized afterward with urged attendance from opponents of gambling and state horse race revenue.
The So-Sew Kensington will be entertained on Thursday next week at the home of Mrs. James Gibbons with Mrs. Otto Tierst and Mrs. Price assisting.
The Church Aid met at L. E. Treadway’s home with good attendance. Missionary society met at the church. The Church Aid to serve dinner and supper and sell dressed chickens in Osceola on October 19. Visitors included Mr. and Mrs. Wendland and others called at Mrs. A. E. Dawes. Bert Weeden and his sister from Wisconsin visited relatives. Weeden and Alvin drove to Loup City. M. E. Swanson and Stromsburg conducted Bible study. Guests at Floyd West’s included John Davis of Cuba New York Lawrence Davis of Humboldt Phoebe Hope Edith Charles and G. M. Lowe.
