Open house honors Mrs Selma Pearson Smith in Grand Island
Mrs Selma Pearson Smith who taught school 36 years and recently retired was honored at an open house in Grand Island. The event drew about 60 attendees and also honored two other retired teachers. The program included Carnations and a mother’s day tea with many community members visiting and sharing memories.

Death of Emma J. Kepner in California
Emma J Swanson born January 23 1880 on a Swanson homestead near Swede Home died May 2 in Glendale California at age 87. She married Samuel H Kepner July 16 1913 at Grand Island. Survived by daughter Evelyn I Main and brother Charles A Swanson both of Glendale four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral May 5 in Glendale with burial at Osceola cemetery.
