After the Phillips 66 service station grand opening in Blair, Mrs. Carl Graverholt released a gas filled souvenir balloon with her name and address. A card from an Illinois resident confirms the balloon traveled far reaching a long distance.
A 50,000 bushel steel grain bin owned by Carter burst Tuesday around 12 30 p m dumping shelled corn on the Union Pacific switch track. Most corn spilled to the opposite side due to a nearby bin and the bin must be emptied before repairs. The event was reported in the St Edward Advance. Sandra and Gerald Spillman of Julesburg, grandchildren of Mr and Mrs Fred Weible of this city, sent Get Well letters to President Eisenhower from Denver. Eisenhower replied thanking them for their good wishes.
