Elliott Offered Nebraska Coach Job After Banquet Reveal

Pete Elliott, then backfield coach of the top college team, was offered the Nebraska head coaching position. Athletic director Bill Orwig announced at Osceola’s football banquet that Elliott is the number one choice and is interested, with a formal statement expected January 2. Elliott would leave Oklahoma where he coaches the Sooners, who play Maryland in the Orange Bowl January 1.

Osceola Public Schools Plan Christmas Activities

Superintendent Clair Walker announced Christmas vacation from December 22 to January 2, with school closing at 2 00 p m the day before Christmas. Activities include a Grade Christmas program December 14, a high school dance December 17, a Grade Operetta December 20, and a Christmas caroling event December 22. Basketball games are scheduled around the break against Stromsburg Rising City and Silver Creek.

4-H Achievement Meet At Shelby

The 4-H Achievement meeting gathered about 200 leaders and parents at Shelby Parish Hall on November 25. The Shelby 4-H Council president Allen Anderson led the program with musical numbers and awards for 1955 were presented by Home Agent Miss Crosby.

Thelma Allinder received a judge’s compliment after the National Thanksgiving Association contests. Mrs. Gertrude Hanson of Excellsior Minnesota led as national chair. prizes went to Mabel Atkinson and Frances Atkinson of Dayton Idaho for first place in the main contest and a Malad City Idaho resident for second prize. Leta Edwards of McCook Nebraska earned an honorable mention with book prizes. a Paul Minnesota student won the high school division.

Christmas Program by Grade School Students

The grade school Christmas program will be given Wednesday afternoon December 14 at 2 00 PM It includes kindergarteners through fifth grade and features music by the Tonette Band plus solo performances by children Parents and friends are invited with no admission charged.

Beckstrom Farm Sale Scheduled for December 16

Vernal Beckstrom will hold a general public farm sale 10 miles west and one mile north of Osceola on Friday December 16 at 12 noon. The sale includes a large line of machinery 13 head of cattle and some hogs plus household goods and miscellaneous items. Merrick and Engel act as auctioneers with Don Byers as clerk.

Mrs DeTurk buried in Rising City funeral

Mrs Emma J DeTurk died last Friday December 2 in Columbus aged 75. Funeral services were held Monday at United Brethren church in Shelby with Rev R W Garrison officiating. Interment followed in Rising Sun cemetery.

Earl F. Hassler 65 of 5112 Capitol Avenue Omaha retired drug salesman died in a local hospital last Wednesday afternoon November 30 after a short illness. Native of Plattsmouth he previously ran the drug store at the present Bush Drug Store site. Nels Anderson Dies in California at 97

Nels Anderson 97 died early Wednesday morning November 30 in San Pedro California Community Hospital after a brief illness. Born August 29 1858 in Stockholm Sweden he came to America at seven settling near Rockford Illinois. He lived near Osceola Nebraska and moved to Redondo Beach California in 1943. Survived by his wife two sons and several daughters ten grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Private funeral services were held in Redondo Beach and the remains brought to Osceola with burial in Stromsburg cemetery.

Old Santa Visits Osceola This Saturday Parade and train ride planned
