Correct Drain Violations In New London
New London reports 130 violations from downspouts and cellar drains dumping into the sanitary sewer, most corrected. Patrick Cassidy says smoke tests aided enforcement of the village ordinance prohibiting illegal storm sewer connections to the sanitary system. A state policy effective Oct. 1 aims to prevent plant overflows and bypass of untreated wastes during heavy rain. Some storm sewers will also be corrected to remove sanitary connections. About 5,000 feet of the 13,000 foot water system remains affected.
