The General Assembly session opens amid a dispute between U N secretary Thant and the United States over Vietnam bombing. Thant raised a vote on halting the bombing but called it impractical as not on the agenda.

A 35 year old Cleveland woman Alma Krekus and her 17 month old son Ronald fell 12 feet from a jet bridge in Philadelphia after a fuel truck backed away and struck the mobile ramp. Alma injured critically with skull and back fractures while Ronald suffered a skull fracture and is in fair condition. Flight had originated in New York with stops in Cleveland Chicago Seattle and Honolulu. The incident occurred as the Northwest Orient Airlines 720 refueled and the ramp was struck by the truck front fender.
