Nixon to Campaign in Ohio for Goldwater

Former vice president Richard M. Nixon will visit Ohio on October 14 on behalf of Republican presidential candidate Barry Goldwater. He will attend a Toledo breakfast, speak at a Sandusky lunch rally, and address an evening Lakewood rally, sponsored by local GOP groups in Lucas and Erie counties.

Humphrey in Toledo Campaign Swing Delivers Big Crowd

Senator Hubert Humphrey spoke to about 7 500 college students at the Toledo Ex press Airport and in a field house praising the Kennedy era, hitting Barry Goldwater and Lyndon Johnson while stressing general prosperity and jobs as he urged progress.

Norwalk Adopts 1965 Budget and Approves Road Work

The Norwalk City Council adopted a $1.9 million 1965 budget with minor fund changes and warns the general fund may near red by year end. They awarded a $33,775 contract to Price Construction for Norwood Avenue reconstruction and began Franklin Street work. The council also approved Parkwood Manors plat adding 28 lots and will buy Norwalk Truck Lines property for $32,000. The police report radar enforcement found speeds under 29 mph.

First Frost Delivers First Killing Frost of Fall

The ground wore a glistening white coat as the first killing frost of fall appeared with 24 degrees noted this morning. Weather observer Ray Whitbeck reports 24 degrees the coldest since April 5 and recalls a lighter frost on Sept. 13 at 36 degrees while contrasting with last year’s Oct. 7 warmth. The previous day’s high reached 52 with a low of 35.

United Fund reports show rise to twenty one thousand seventy eight ninety four

Drive Chairman George Manyak reports total United Fund contributions to date at 21078.94. Firms now listed as fully contributing include Norwalk Waste Materials Norwalk Bargain Center Huron County Board of Education City Offices Fire Department Electric Line Distribution Department and Police Department. Manyak urged volunteers to submit reports and enclosures though calls may be incomplete and firms may arrange pickup by contacting the United Fund office.

Norwalk Residents Named to Circulate School Finance Petitions

Ten Norwalk residents join a district drive led by Mrs. Jane Klein to circulate petitions for an Ohio Council of Education bill proposing a one cent sales tax increase earmarked for the school foundation program. If the bill fails, petitions will aim for the ballot next year.

Parker Guilty of Assault in Augusta Golf Round

Claude A. Parker was convicted of assault and battery after a foursome in Augusta on a Masters trip. Testimony described a broken driver, a jagged shaft, and a scuffle that left Parker wounded Wrinkle with a severed finger bite. Parker received a $350 fine and a 12 month sentence suspended.
