U.S. and South Vietnamese forces killed at least 446 Communist fighters in a climactic operation described as a major allied Viet Nam victory with light Allied casualties. The fighting ended with Viet Cong forces pressed toward the South China Sea.
In Wetherby England farmer Harry Webster reported a 140 foot long 4 foot high stone wall missing from his field. The 35 ton wall valued about 700 dollars was far from the farmhouse and a police spokesman called it unusual.
Clarence Ellett sanitarian with the Huron County Health Department will chair the opening session of the Ohio Tuberculosis and Health Association annual meeting in Columbus on Thursday. The sum covers 90 percent of the budget with local 10 percent to be provided, effective with Gov James A Rhodes consent.
Tom Carabin an insurance man from Norwalk was elected Thursday night as the new president of the Norwalk Junior Chamber of Commerce. New officers include Jim Aile first vice president Bill Berry second vice president Bob Stewart secretary Jerry Stoll treasurer Pat Furlong Gene Missler and Phil May as directors.
The May term of the Huron County Grand Jury returned seven indictments after exam of 13 witnesses in a one day session. Richard Matta, 30, Pittsburgh, Pa, charged with two forgery counts and one larceny by trick. William E. Cooper, 18, Bellevue, charged with grand larceny. Ofield Patrick, 41, rural Monroeville, charged with assault with a dangerous weapon. Roland Noon, 24, 60 Spine Ct, charged with forgery. Richard FE Showers, 35, rural Norwalk, charged with issuing a bad check. Jury found jail satisfactory. William R. Wilkinson of Norwalk was foreman.
Mrs Marian Kromer of 165 Benedict Avenue reported a broken front window this morning. Police found a small stone on the porch and believe it may have been thrown from the street. She said she went to bed at 10 30 Friday night and heard no disturbance.
The annual Scout Show at the Huron County Fairgrounds runs 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. today with over 20 units from Huron County Milan and Berlin Heights. Booths display skills from first aid to soil and water conservation and personal fitness. Five troops camped last night with more expected tonight.
Burglars entered the Citizens National Bank Building through an unlocked rear door Friday night and pried open the waiting room of Dr. George Linn Sr on the second floor. No items were taken and the locked office remained secure. Police found no other offices tampered with.
Tass reports Communist antiaircraft guns opened fire on a U S plane over the western Hanoi suburbs. The agency did not confirm any hits. Tass noted the capital’s noon was shattered by jet roar and explosions as American planes intruded into Vietnamese airspace.
