A Huron County deputy investigated a possible burglary at Richmond School after finding a broken basement window at 12 30 pm and reported missing $3 in small change. Willard police and the janitor assisted as the deputy checked the building. no intruder was found.
The Defense Department raises the July draft to 26,500 for the Army, up from June’s 15,000 and higher than April’s 21,700 yet below May’s 34,600. Harriman says no prisoner exchange in Vietnam now but open to talks.

The Justice Department filed in Mobile federal court asking that Wilson Baker be declared the winner over segregationist Sheriff Jim Clark after six boxes of predominantly Black votes were rejected by the Dallas County Democratic Executive Committee. Clark claimed three boxes were unguarded before vote counting, with Negro officials away obtaining food.
The mercury reached 80 degrees on Thursday with balmy but breezy conditions. May 5 1965 saw 66 degrees, 1964 topped by 82 on May 5 1964. Baker led in votes but Clark’s 1965 runoff could occur. local politics include questions over disputed ballots and civil rights tension surrounding Sheriff Clark.
Washington reports Hanoi is strengthening its forces in South Vietnam as monsoon rains approach. U.S. officials say 40,000 more troops have been sent in two months, bringing total U S strength to 255,000, with an estimated Viet Cong and North Vietnamese force of about 250,000 in the south. Defense Secretary McNamara may have underestimated enemy infiltration capability.
Huron County sheriff's deputies ship the carcass to Ohio State University for testing after a dog chased and killed a large fanged cat at a lake near Greenwich. The owner Russ Wise reported the animal screeched while approaching. the dog Co Co dragged it into the lake where it died. Local debate over a so called cougar continues as experts weigh possible species.
Huron County Auditor Bernard F. Kean completed the calculation for the first half of 1965 real estate tax distributions. The report was mailed to the State Auditor for approval, with distribution to follow once approval is received, likely early next week. The total distribution amounts to $4,072,217.
A 22 year old driver James H Romell of 97 Elm St apparently dozed at 3:40 am and crossed left of center on Milan Avenue before striking utility wires and a street sign in front of 18 Milan Ave. Police cited Romell for driving left of center.
A two year old Bayview girl Sharon Gowitzka was struck as her mother backed a car from the driveway on East Algonquin Trail near Route 269. She was in satisfactory condition at Memorial Hospital in Sandusky. The incident occurred about 6 40 p m. Police said the driver Mrs Arthur Gowitzka backed out and knocked the child down then ran partly over her.
Stephan Matuschak will be the main speaker at the annual Eagles Mother’s Day banquet in Norwalk with Dorothy McCormack as auxiliary speaker. Widows of former members will attend. a floor show and dance conclude the evening at 6 p.m. Former mayor Louis Grey will be toastmaster. District Vice-Chair Herber Schriner to preside. The Eagles helped establish Mother’s Day as a national holiday.
A house trailer attached to a tractor suffered damage in a morning accident at Milan Avenue and League Streets at 10 15. Edwin W Gintling 27 Akron the tractor driver said he attempted a turn from League onto Milan but the arc was too short and the trailer struck a car.
