A tugboat returns to routine work on the East River after crews on tug and barge unanimously ratified a new contract ending an 88 day strike that halted New York Harbor. The pact offers a 32 percent raise over three years and job security for union members on ocean going tugs and barges along the Atlantic coast.
The Ohio Supreme Court ruled the Public Utilities Commission erred by allowing Toledo Edison to include Davis Besse nuclear plant operating costs in its 1977 rate base before the plant produced net electricity. Consumers' Counsel says about 7 million dollars in residential rebates are due, and urges immediate removal of Davis Besse from the rate base. The ruling sets rebates to potentially also cover commercial and industrial customers. the PUCO will decide on timing. The plant has been idle since the Three Mile Island accident.
Boston Pops conductor Arthur Fiedler has been released from Tufts New England Medical Center where he was recovering from a mild heart attack. Hospital spokesman Henry Wilson said physicians scheduled his convalescence to continue at home.
