A car appears to be swimming up Spring Street amid widespread urban flooding. The scene, captured by a UPI telephoto, reflects extensive street inundation and high water levels affecting multiple in-town streets.
A winter storm drenched the Northeast with snow and heavy rain, causing at least six deaths and widespread flooding across New England, New Jersey, and eastern New York. Evacuations affected about 100 families in New Jersey. Stratford, Connecticut declared a state of emergency after waters up to 12 feet surged through the town. A derailed single-car train on Conrail’s New Haven line stranded passengers for four hours while airports faced delays and runways closed.
Ohio General Assembly reconvenes with public hearings on capital punishment reform and a school budgeting bill. Prof. Lawrence Herman (OSU) testifies against capital punishment as the Judiciary Committee revisits methods to align with a 1976 Supreme Court ruling. Norwalk ambulances report three weekend calls. At 9:35 a.m. Sunday Eleanor Sharick of 246 West Main Street was taken to Fisher-Titus Medical Center for medical aid. At 10:51 a.m. Sunday Manuel Felix of 40 Jefferson Street was transported to Fisher-Titus for medical care. At 7 p.m. Sunday Ruth Grimes of Greenwich was moved from Fisher-Titus to Lorain Community Hospital after a car accident treatment.
