Malfunction Causes Norfolk and Western Train Derailment

Snowmobiles plunge through Lake Erie ice near Sandusky

A man in his 30s, George Carrender of Lakeside, is missing and presumed drowned after two snowmobiles went through the ice on Lake Erie near Sandusky Monday night. Two others, Nancy Kristensen and her son David, were rescued by two Lakeside youths, Jim Minmear and Robert Sedlak. Divers searched at 10 a.m. for Carrender as witnesses described his brief resurfacing before he disappeared.

Ohio Edison accused of sabotaging off peak plan in Ohio

Akron based report says consumers and advocates charge Ohio Edison deliberately set off peak hours to inconvenient times and discouraged inquiries about peak time of day service. State official Spratley plans to file a complaint with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio. Edison opposes the plan while defending the rate as fair. Fire levels target of old arson try in Willard area

A Sept 3 arson attempt was followed by a fire that leveled a one story wooden house on Weis Road in Richmond Township. Firefighters battled the blaze from 11 16 p m to 1 05 a m with 19 men and four vehicles at the scene. State fire marshal to inspect. no arrests announced. Nearby house undamaged. Damage estimated at 8000 dollars. Previous residents and suspects in related arson cases connected to Dennis Ohls and his wife, charged with hiring two men to set the house fire for insurance. Ohls and accomplices pleaded guilty in separate deals. one man received probation and fines. the other faces ongoing charges. A microwave was seized and given to a county youth home.
